Heirs of Deurem

Inheritors of Legacy

Origins

There are conflicting reports on which guild was the first guild of dragon slayers ever formed within the Mortal Realm. However, there is no doubt that the Heirs of Deurem were the first dragon slayer guild formed within Deuria. The Heirs of Deurem were considered prolific in their abilities and one of the most successful guilds during the Golden Age of Dragon Slaying. The guild from it's inception held heavy support and input from the Deurian city-state government, ensuring that it was well supplied with any resources and recruits. Each of its members were driven by a burning desire to honor their homes and the name of their exalted hero that they carried with them. This heavy influence by the Deurian government and the influence of Deurem himself lead to the guild having much closer ties and relations to the government than what was typical for dragon slayer guilds. Accusations of serving as lapdogs to the Collective rather than serving the people hounded them for nearly their entire existence until the Accords were finally signed centuries later.

The Accords

When the Accords were signed into law, it was no secret that Deuria was begrudingly going along. Many worried that they would not follow through with the terms of the treaty. To everyone's surprise, Deuria was actually the first to report that all Dragon Slayer Guild activities had been disbanded or retired throughout their territory. Even the Heirs of Deurem were gone, without a single trace left to be found by anyone. This of course, was only temporary. Many speculate that the guild was never truly disbanded alongside the others and only hidden by the The Magus Collective.

Modern Day

After nearly a century of supposed compliance with the accords, whispers and rumors of sightings of the Heirs began to spread throughout the lands. These rumors eventually turned into outright confirmation as their presence became widely known back within Deuria as an official arm of the Collective's military. The Collective has issued statements time and again to the other city-states that the return of the Heirs of Deurem is only meant to be symbolic. Officially, the guild does not continue any dragon slaying practices and all dragon slaying equipment was long abandoned. The reestablishment of the guild is only meant to symbolize the city's continued vigil against the returning draconic threat. Despite these statements, gossip of hunts conducted by the guild have returned. To many observers, the guild seems to operating with the same level of autonomy as the days before the Accords. Many outside voices raise concerns that it does not appear to be acting as the elite honor guard they are advertised to be. The Collective dismisses these worries and rumors while its citizens cheer for the return of their beloved heroes.
