The Notable City Wards & Other Locations
Businesses, homes, and other establishments are grouped into Wards and carefully organized like the rest of the city. Although there are no formal walls separating the wards, larger central streets indicate the divides between Wards as well as the presence in slightly different arrangement and architecture of buildings. The walking streets and the skiff lanes are both patrolled by security officers tasked with ensuring that the customs, laws, and regulation of the city are upheld.
Ward of Forges
In the center of this Ward, a large building towers above the rest. Large metal pipes sprawl out from the “Metal Octopus”, providing fuel and power to the multitude of forges that line this Ward. The Metal Octopus is a biofuel refinery, capable of burning a variety of materials to produce energy that the forges utilize to heat and fuel their furnaces and other contraptions used in the creation of the high standard required in the City of Ordained Order. A majority of the blacksmiths and tanners in this Ward come from long lines of families who have worked in their forges for generations. There are, however, a few notable newcomers who have managed to get a foot in the door and keep up with the high standard of craftsmanship required to make it in the City of Forges. Although the Metal Octopus seems to be working at all hours, there is only the smallest level of smog generated. If one squints… they might notice the flickering of what appears to be an arcane sigil – wards – to keep the smog from accumulating.
Although there are at least 50 forges within this Ward, a few forges are:
The most notable establishment within the Ward is simply known as The Keg. It is fittingly named as the entire building resembles a large, wooden keg with large metal pipes protruding from the top that wind around the building before vanishing through the walls… and emerging behind the bar. Ale, beers, and meads are all brewed in the lower floors of the building, sent up and around through the pipes, and then are served behind the pristine wood and stone bar inlaid with multiple, repeated depictions of kegs.
While there is a sense of intellectual elitism closer to the center of the city, that appears to be mostly absent here. The people who work and travel through the docks seem to be more down-to-earth and many are temporary visitors from smaller villages and towns from Rendelon’s Forest or near the border of Tel’Rhea who have come to the city just to trade wares. Some fishing vessels are willing to brave the waters of Orven’s Bay and they seem to hold a sort of “hero status” amidst the community here. For if they are able to return, they must be truly righteous and just.
While no walls encase the Port, two large, looming guard towers keep careful watch over the incoming vessels. Very few guards seem to be present atop the walls and within the towers, but the nearby skiff roadways ensure that both men and supplies can be moved to the towers quickly should a threat somehow make it through Orven’s Bay.
Although there are at least 50 forges within this Ward, a few forges are:
- Dragon Forged Emporium – A sprawling enterprise and family-run forge known primarily for tools and machine parts.
- Titan's Custom Arms – A newly established forge that handles detailed, custom weapon and armor commissions.
- The Blackheart Cache – A family-run business known to cater to those in need of larger weaponry.
Ward of Ale & Breweries
Built around a cross-shaped courtyard and set of roadways is the Ward of Ale and Breweries, where – given its name – one might go to get a drink and enjoy a night of entertainment, whether that be music or the shenanigans of those who end up inebriated. Within the Ward, drunken revelry is tolerated, though one is expected to not go so far gone that you can’t find your way home or recognize that it might be better to stay within the Ward for the night. Similar to the Ward of Forges, many of the establishments are family-owned and have been in the family for generations. Recipes are often fiercely guarded, but a general array of beverages is provided at almost every location. The most notable establishment within the Ward is simply known as The Keg. The Port of Orven's Bay
Massive sailing vessels and large battleships sit anchored in the many docks as there are unloaded in exchange for new wares or as repair and maintenance crews swarm the deck as they ensure everything is up-to-code and work to bring the newest technology on board the military vessels, including arcane engines. Far outnumbering these large vessels, however, are various riverboats and smaller vessels that move quickly and efficiently between the smaller docks and the nearby rivers, avoiding the tumultuous waters of Orven’s Bay. When the larger vessels prepare to depart, they are moved by taxi along the shore until they are well and truly clear of the whirlpool infested waters of the smaller bay. While there is a sense of intellectual elitism closer to the center of the city, that appears to be mostly absent here.
