Devils

The term “deities” encapsulates a significant number of entities with a wide variey of power levels and types. The term widely refers to any being that is worshipped by mortals, though there are some beings considered deities that do not fulfill this definition but are grouped with deities because there’s not really anywhere else that they fit. This umbrella is split into three smaller umbrellas: celestials, devils, and demons. Celestials are usually immortal beings that exist in the celestial plane and recieve their power by being worshipped by mortal followers, though the term celestial also includes angels, who are beings imbued with celestial power but get this power through a deity rather than themselves being one. Devils are creatures that recieve power not only through worship, but through sacrifice of what is considered “sacred”, such as blood, limbs, and life. Demons are beings that obtain their powers by leeching off of other divine beings or their followers. Each of these three categories contains more subcategories as well, with celestials being subdivided into greater, intermediate, lesser, quasi-, minor and demi-celestials, devils being subdivided into archdevils, greater devils, lesser devils, and devilspawn, and demons subdivided into greater and lesser demons, as well as demonspawn. The categories of devils not only correlate to their amount of worshippers, but also to their more social status in the Nine Hells. Archdevils are the nine greater devils who rule each of the Nine Hells, while greater devils are all of the other devils that are worshipped my mortals or otherwise have cults in their names. Lesser devils are too numerous to count or list, and are instead grouped by type; barbed devil, pit fiend, etc. Devilspawn are tieflings or other beings that are part devil and part something else.
