Para (Pah-rah)

Para was the goddess of commerce, trade, and civilization.

Description

Para was portrayed as a slender, young woman with long, lustrous golden hair; always splendidly dressed. Some depictions included a pair of golden lions or dragons resting at her feet. All celestial representatives sent to the material plane had some form of golden feature, some of whom appeared to have been made of solid gold.

Religion

Para was venerated and appeased by not only merchants, from lowly peddlers to the wealthy owners of trading companies, but investors, accountants, entrepreneurs, caravan guides, warehouse owners, deal-makers, moneylenders, and other such individuals. She was seldom associated with illicit trade and wealth, although that doesn't mean that she was always associated with goodness, as some of her followers called upon her name in their manipulation of legal frameworks for their own financial benefit. In this sense, she was placed as the opposite to Bencillik, the goddess of greed and selfishness.   She was a member of the Draconic Pantheon where she was placed in opposition to Bencillik as representing the good side of wealth accumilation. For many good-aligned dragons, she symbolised the natural desire to grow their horde without the need for dishonesty and capturing the wealth from others through violence.   Amongst humanoids she was worshipped as part of the Prosperous Voyagers pantheon, representing honest trade and the value of hard work leading to wealth. Alongside the other members of the pantheon, particularly Talih, her face was often placed on the side of coins.   The most holy day for followers of Para was known as Highcoin, which occured on the 10th of Springtide.
