The Primal God Beasts

In the early days of Dunyalem, before the rise of civilisation, most sentient species worshipped or revered the Primal God Beasts. These beasts represent the primal aspects of the world, the elements, nature, and the cycle of life and death.
Since the beginning of recorded history, there have been no confirmed sightings of any of the God Beasts. However, given the world wide spread of the myths and imagery surrounding them it is hard to believe they didn't at one time walk Dunyalem.
As civilisation grew, worship of most of the Beasts waned in favour of the new classical gods. The Phoenix Twins remained as the symbol of the life cycle, though most observe tradition rather than openly worship. 
Some elders and druids speak of a day of reckoning to come, a day in which the God Beasts will be found to have been slumbering in Dunyalem, and in waking will bring chaos and destruction to the world.
