The Great Declaration of War
The Great Declaration of War is a document written by the nine chiefs of Grood. It was a short and crude warning to Narlo. Originally written in Common Tyun, a copy was also translated into Common Phelrogan and sent to Amatrio.
Purpose
This document was created in order to make it known that the lands of Grood and Narlo were now at war, and also to serve as a clear way of allying themselves with Shade.
Document Structure
Legal status
This document is written with the authority of the eight Groodian Chiefs. It is a statement of war and it is based off of the Law of War, which states; “The attempted forcible capture of any settlement of the Groodian peoples, or spilling of Groodian blood in the name of another region’s flag will be considered an act of war and will result in an immediate council of the Chiefs and a declaration of war or other strong consequences, depending on the decision of the council."
Historical Details
Background
The Groodian land has been ruled primarily by nine chiefs. Each of these chiefs rules one city or village to the north of the Carst. This rule has gone on as long as anyone can remember. These rulers were, at one point in time, friendly and in league with the kings of Narlo. However, after the fall of the Isle of Light; Narlo’s most magnificent city, the Groodian Chiefs were eventually persuaded to ally themselves to Shade. This was soon realized by Narlo, and they promptly decided to gather their forces and attack the Groodian capital; Bracknag, in order to capture it and thereby persuade Grood to break their alliance with Shade. This was a blunder for Narlo, because Bracknag was far too heavily defended and was able to call for reinforcements faster than they had expected. After the successful defense of their city, the Groodian chiefs crafted a document of war against Narlo, and published it throughout the lands.
