Session 8: Now in Vienna There's Ten Pretty Women Report

General Summary

Thursday Evening June 12, 1923 - Friday Evening June 13, 1923   Jackson Elias reaches out to the gang and gets them back together again for an occult auction in Vienna. Upon arrival, they meet up with their translator, Edward Hawkins, who they recognize from the file found in the sewers a year back. Christopher is not included in the trip, as his parents seem to be keeping him from the group activities that seem to threaten his life and mental state. The evening is spent enjoying food and the sights as the gang waits for the auction next day.   We take some time the next morning to learn more about the Ausperg House and the auctions the hold, learning it's a fairly exclusive event. Similar time-passing activities occur until the time comes for the auction, where we meet the man in charge (Frederick Albert Ausperg), get some time to check out the objects, and mingle with the other guests (many of which are foreigners). We get a sense for their interests and thoughts on various items over the course of the next couple hours before the actual auction.   The auction is intense, and we manage to get the artifact that we sought out for at half the price. Jack spends way too much money on a alchemist (demon?) sword. Just before lot 9, one of the assistants goes missing. When a second assistant is sent to check on them, we hear a shriek and rush to find a scene of bloody dismemberment. Lot 9, a brass head, is missing and a trail of blood leads to the room's dumbwaiter. Edward notices the body, while dismembered, is missing large sections of muscle and speculates that perhaps the head is trying to create a body for itself. Monte and Edward volunteer the group to to look into the incident. We follow this trail to the basement, where a large tunnel is bored through the wall and into the ground. Unfortunately, the tunnel has collapsed, making it impossible to follow. There are jacks indicating human hands made the tunnel, which seems to have been opened from the outside coming in. As we take this in, we hear the police arrive, and basically tell us to sit tight while they figure it out. Edward overhears some bits about desecrated graves around town, but is brushed off without them elaborating.   As the police and attendees disperse, Frederick approaches us and asks us to use our experience to help investigate this case, as he fears that the police may not be fast enough to resolve this. He says that he has some ideas as to who might be behind it, because three individuals present at the auction tried to purchase the head beforehand.
