Session 15: A Lovely Carriage Ride
General Summary
The party has decided to accept a job from Simon Twoorb. They are to escort him to The Great Crag in Dooram to interview the Daughters of Sora Kell. However, Simon won't be ready for a week or so. In the meantime, Duli Mountainriver , a representative of House Orien , implores the party to assist in transporting Tablet of Draconic Prophecy from a City Watch station in Middle Menthis to the rendezvous in Upper Travik's Landing.
The party is to be one of four groups traveling in sky coaches as a way to throw off would-be attackers (of which there are expected to be several). Duli inisists the party will have the actual tablet, but the belief amongst the others involved is the tablet will be transported by The Adventuerers of Alaire, a famous adventuring group out of Cliffwatch.
The party meets at the City Watch station, and enjoys a brief breakfast with the others. They meet the Adventurers and get along well. Then Duli gives them their assignments, and makes it clear they are to trust no one unless they are in their sky coach. Everyone heads to their assigned station. Along the way they meet their guide and courier, Hazel d'Orien.
Trouble starts almost immediately. One ship is blasted from the sky soon after takeoff, and the attacks on the other ships cause the other two to collide. The party leaves them to their fate, though it is unlikely they survived.
The party is attacked throughout the rest of the trip. Hazel and the party successfully fight off adversaries the whole way, but the ship takes serious damage from several ballista bolts just before they reach Upper Travik's Landing. Realizing a crash is inevitable, Hazel shoves the backpack (presumably containing the tablet) into Ripper 's arms and has him launched safely from the ship. He floats safely onto the cliff edge and moves immediately toward the drop point. The ship, however, crashes onto the lip of the cliff, sending the party and Hazel flying forward. All are damaged. Celosia is able to heal the party, and likely save Hazel's life, but Lt. Aphrid, Ripper's skeleton, appears to have taken grave damage. As soon as they are upright Ice and Toox start to follow Ripper.
Ripper has over a dozen individuals moving toward him, presumably with ill intent. One, a green dragonborn, reaches him first and begs him to prove he has the tablet. He insists he is their contact. Ripper ignores him and continues to run for the drop point. He has the backpack against his chest, a dozen enemies in front of him, and no druid staff. He does, however, have a very big stick.
