Session 47: Return to the Crag
General Summary
The party starts by saving the train and it's passengers. Karias Von Allmen polymorphs one of the elementals into an armadillo while Toox and a group of Ripper's pixies plant featherfall tokens up and down the train. The pixies then polymorph the second elemental into a matching armadillo. The train lands safely, and everyone is saved. The House Orien officials on the train banish the polymorphed armadillos, and the day is won.
...also, Toox steals 5 featherfall tokens from the passenger luggage.
Given a moment to catch their breath, Celosia Senho and Ripper discover their teleportation spells have been supercharged. Celosia can see teleportation circles across all of Eberron, and Ripper finds great trees with enough familiarity to be able to travel across the world as well. The party decides to head to The Great Crag to return the head of Benne Rowich to The Daughters of Sora Kell. Celosia senses a ring somewhere deep inside the mountain itself, but unaware of whether it is safe or not they elect to travel by tree to a spot outside of the mountain (See Session 30: The One with the Corpse Flowers). They make haste toward the mountain, but a member of the Quickling Network appears and demands a sample of Ice's blood. Ice relents, and the quickling departs. Not long after the party is forcibly teleported to the same circle inside the Crag. This circle has been kept secret, and there is no indication how long it has been working. Hra Dirtcast is there to greet them, though she is definitely the worse for wear. Still proud, she leads the group to the throne room.
The throne room is crowded with advisors from across Droaam gathered around a magical table with a holomap of Eberron. The group appears to be processing incoming information and debating next steps. To their surprise the party sees Merrix d'Cannith among them- apparently he sensed the ring as well, but was a bit hastier in his arrival. After managing to not be killed he has lent his knowledge.
Before anything else can happen, though, the party turns the head over to Sora Katra. The party, in a moment of solemnity, are declared Heroes and Friends of Droaam. The head is turned into a macabre chandelier floating over the throne room, and the party are invited to join the conversation at the table.
In the interest of time, here is a summary of what they discovered:
1) Blast originated in Sarlona, around Forest of Lurking Shadows or Oha Province
2) Kalashtar were all knocked out before the blast, Warforged stopped working, airships fell briefly, but harpies could still fly. Natural abilities were not affected, but spell like abilities were.
3) Sharn was devastated, casualties in the 10-20k. Skyward appears to have been unaffected.
4) Merrix has created a universal translator.
5) Toox asks Merrix for more featherfall tokens, he gives her 8.
6) Shockwave believed to be caused by the destruction of a dimensional seal. Prof. Bosco theorized the Day of Mourning was another one, but no one believed him.
After learning all they could, the party were shown back to their old rooms in the mountain by Edea. She is still clearly mourning Alepoison, but is glad to see them. Upon arriving in their rooms, Inkwell is similarly happy to see his old friends. He provides a sort of magical whiteboard for the party to use as they attempt to gather their thoughts and decide what to do next.
First, of course, the party got totally distracted and used it as a mirror to show how they saw themselves. A quick summary:
1) Karias used it as a mirror, showing how he thinks of himself- a tiefling whose been cut and healed, burned, and overall tortured.
2) Ripper saw himself as a fractured whole
3) Toox saw herself as Toox sans dragonmark
4) Celosia said no.
Inkwell is providing 4 daggers with a Glyph of Warning (Moonbeam) for Ice, complementing the Holy Oil Merrix had given him earlier. In further conversations with those around them, the party discovers Ripper's plants and followers were saved by Hazel d'Orien , and were last in a House Orien storage warehouse.
Lastly, Toox asks Merrix about the bomb… and sees the other side of Merrix. It seems this was stolen from his home, and he wanted to know where it came from. She demurred, he intimidated her into telling him (Professor Petar ir'Moran's office) . He gives the bomb back and writes the trigger word on a slip of paper, folding it twice. He tells her to not unfold the paper until she is ready to set off the bomb. Read the words and... boom.
Finally, the group begin to gather as much information as they can, leading them to The Final Words of Tiny Macey...
