Rivercross (River-cross)

A large village located around a bridge over the Drondurlin River. It is technically half in the territory of House Battleborn and half in the territory of House Holsend. This used to be a source of conflict between the two houses, but Sarvon Battleborn relented House Battleborn's claim over the village after House Holsend was rocked by the Lyrinian War. House Holsend has recently enforced a small tax of 1 copper piece for non-civilians traveling over the fortified stone bridge. Civilians are given a special silver coin with the symbol of House Holsend imprinted on it that allows free crossing across the bridge at any time of day. This entire effort is made to raise funds for House Holsend to eventually take back Plitvale from the orcs that moved in after it was abandoned by the occupying Lyrinian elves.

Demographics

Rivercross is a majority human farmers, though has more businesses and infrastructure than the nearby farming village of Yellowfield. Like the rest of the Verdant Fields, it has a comparatively high Half-Elf population compared to the rest of the Ruthorian Empire.

Government

Rivercross has a Pekka named Fren Kissok who manages the affairs of Rivercross and the nearby villages at the command of House Holsend.

Defences

Soldiers of House Holsend act as the guard force in Rivercross and are in charge of manning Stendar's Bridge.

Industry & Trade

Rivercross is on a heavily traveled trade route that relies on Stendar's Bridge. Traders and travelers are very important to Rivercross' economy, making the satisfaction of these people one of the priorities of the village.

Infrastructure

  • Stendar's Bridge: A large stone bridge over the Drondurlin River which Rivercross is built around. It was commissioned by Stendar Ruthen for the War of Mantlemine, and the village was built around it after. The bridge allows free movement for citizens of Rivercross between the southeast and northwest of the village. Halfway across the bridge is a gate, posted at which is a rotating set of guards. These guards are charged with collecting a tax of one copper piece for every person traveling over the bridge who isn't carrying a special silver coin imprinted with the symbol of House Holsend (which are given to each citizen of Rivercross, exempting them from the tax). The gates on the bridge are to be closed in the event of danger.
  • Trees: Trees with deep roots are specifically planted on the part of the Drondurlin River's riverbank adjacent to the village to prevent erosion.

Districts

The village is separated by the Drondurlin River, though it is connected by Stendar's Bridge. There isn't a tremendous amount of difference between the two sides, though the houses on the northwest side are usually made of stone while the houses on the southeast side are usually made of wood.

Assets

  • Trees: There are trees growing along the Drondurlin river, though not enough to supper a large lumber industry.
  • Drondurlin River: The Drondurlin River is a good source of fish and water for the people of Rivercross.

Architecture

Most of the houses on the northwest side are usually made of stone while the houses on the southeast side are usually made of wood.

Climate

The climate of the Verdant Fields is very hot and humid in the warmer months, and very cold and dry in the cooler months.
