Traiphotian Empire (Tray-foe-tee-an)

War of the Four Kingdoms (-4838-23)

Before the existance of the Traiphotian Empire the area of the Trat Plains was occupied by multiple independent kingdoms. Some of these kingdoms were more powerful than others and constantly took advantage of their weaker neighbors. However the more powerful kingdoms often fought each other for control of the area which lead to the War of the Four Kingdoms (-4838-23). This was a conflict between the four most powerfull kingdoms in the Trat Pains over the newly reopened western trading route.

However, amist the fighting, a young man called Photus wanted change. Photus came from the kingdom of Urkav which was reletively small and largely exploited by the kingdoms of Tartis and Vumurk which it boardered. During the conflict multiple battles were fought within the kingdom between these two larger forces, damaging farms and towns across the countryside.

After the kingdom of Tartis won the War of the Four Kingdoms, Photus rallyed the people of Urkav and other small neighboring kingdoms against the weakened Tartinians, taking their capital of Traitin and beheading their king. Photus had managed to overthrow the most powerful kingdom in the Trat Plains and spent the next few years, subdueing the other powerful kingdoms into his system. He established the Traiphotian Alliance of which he was High King. Within the alliance there was multiple kingdoms, which largely retained their old boarders, governed from the capital of Traitin. Each kingdom was rueled individually by a King/Queen who reported to Photus I, the High King.

In its early years this system worked well as Photus set up a basic law and established more equality across all the kingdoms in the allience. There was less conflict between the kingdoms bringing more stability and trade to the area. Many saw Photus as a savior who had unified the kingdoms and ended decades of conflict. The kings who opposed Photus were deposed and executed, mostly being relaced with his friends and allies who had helped him establish power.

Expansion Period

The -4700s were a centery of significant change in Ecoth which dramatically changed the hands of power around the Traiphotians. The Great South War (-4761-59) and the Dynasty Buzhanan War (-4759-53) had led to the major powers of Capti and Buzhana being ethier dissolved or taken over which changed how Trade in the south east operated. However they also started more conflicts closer to the Traiphotian Allience such as the Dynal Civil War (-4735-30) which also saw the decline of The Old Dynasty. The collapse and decline of major powers in Ecoth in the -4700s is widely seen as the main reason that the Traiphotian Allience was able to expand and become so prominant so quickly.

Fall of the Kurth Allience

The Kurth Alliance was a strip of kingdoms to the Dynasty's east which acted as a buffer against larger invaders. After the Dynal Civil War (-4735-30), the Kurth Allience was cut off from The Old Dynasty for helping the Loyalists and Nivshnot the Mad. Later, in the year -4724 the Court of Lords, which was ruling the Dynasty at the time, officially dissolved the Kurth Allience, leaving its member kingdoms vulnrable.

This is where the High King of the Traiphotian Alliance saw an oppertunity. He offered membership to the kingdoms that were once part of the Kurth Allience, in exchange for free trade through their teritories. The kingdoms were boardering the Dynasty which was one of the biggest trading hubs in Ecoth at the time and so when they agreed the Traiphotian allience gained valuble access to trade and new members.

Joining of the Border Kingdoms

Soon after the addition of the Kurth kingdoms in -4720, several kingdoms bordering the Suhuvan Empire asked to join the Traiphotian Allience. They were suffering from regular raids from Suhuva and hoped that Traiphotia could do something about it. High King Nuvort II considered it for a while before eventually agreeing. However he was awere that by allowing the border kingdoms into the allience he risked a war with Suhuva. Before officially bringing the border kingdoms into the allience he first reformed the military and renamed the Traiphotian Allience to the Traiphotian Empire, naming himself Emperor Nuvort II.

The addition of the border kingdoms did start a conflict with Suhuva in which the Traiphotian Empire did not do well. Whilst Nuvort II had expected and trained his troops for a conventional war, Suhuva responded by increcing raids and amushes on town and villages which made it harder for the Traiphotians to fight back. The First Border War lasted for at least a decade though many historians argue it went on for much longer as whilst the Traiphotians did fortify the area by -4692 the Suhuvan raids did not stop.

City States and Tribes to the West

As the First Border War rolled on Nuvort looked westwards to expand his teritory in support of the war effort. He believed that if he could become as powerful as the other mighty empires in Ecoth that the Suhuvans would stop attacking from the south. To the west beyond the Traiphotians was mostly tribal peoples and city states which remained fairly isolated from each other. Nuvort wanted to unite them and bring them into his empire. Once more these teritories were good for minning and so Nuvort wanted to establish trade.

Over the next decades the Traiphotians took over all the teritory to their west, sometimes by force but often by offering trade and other benefits of allience. The only place that the Traiphotians wern't able to effectively expand into was the north west where they encountered the Nona. After a brief skermish they made peace with the Nona and established borders.

High Age

Cytonknic Rising (4643-42)

In the year -4643, the rouge member of the The Order of Cyconkight |V| stole a number of Cytonknic and started attacking the Dynals, Nonans and Traiphotians. The Traiphotian Empire was his main target and after wrecking havoc across the countryside he began marching his troops to Traitin to dissolve the empire and start a new state where members of the order were free. Emperor Urt V managed to ally with the Dynasty and the other members of the order of Cyconkight to form the Northern Allience which aimed to push back and defeat |V|. They met at the battle of Gcrev Hill. Initially the Allience was pushed back and overun but thankfully they were saved by a flanking manover from The Order of Cyconkight.

The Traiphotians had made up a majority of the Northern Allience's army and so took the heavist losses. As Cytonknic became more popular the Traiphotian's enemies started to stock up. The Suhuvan Empire purchased several hundred enhanced Cytonknic and positioned them near their boarder with the Traiphotians. This scared Urt V and he pressed for regulations to be put on the use of Cytonknic in war. This led to the Conference of Vlorich in -4639 where all the major powers in Ecoth met to discuss the use of Cytonknic in warfare. However a decision was difficult to come to and after a month of disagreement the comferance was put on hold so rullers could return to their lands.

During that summer Suhuva attacked the Traiphotians using their new Cytonknic before their actions could be countered by a decision at the conference. They started moving troops supported by a unit of enhanced Cytonknic on the south east boarder starting the Second Border Conflict. Urt V knew he could not win against Suhuva so instead he reached out to the other powers in Ecoth and asked for help. Seeing the situation, the Dynasty, Buzhana and Wenstar all threatened Suhuva untill it backed down. The conference in Vlorich quickely resumed and it was decided that Cytonknic should be completly banned from use as soldiers in warfare. Urt V had a large voice in the complete ban of Cytonknic from warfare and the recent actions of Suhuva allowed him to justify his claim.

Third Border War (-4635-4628)

After Urt V died in -4637 his son, Vurkus II took the throne and decided to restart the war with Suhuva. Since the Suhuvan Empire had retreated from Traiphotian teritories in the Second Border War but not officially surendered or made peace, Vurkus II argued that the war had never ended and therefore Suhuva was still the enemy. Vurkus' attack took Suhuva completly off guard. Whilst Suhuva was used to war with the Traiphotian Empire, they were often the attackers which meant that their forts along the boarder were more for holding troops in preperation for attack rather than defence. This meant that even if they did have time to prepare they were desperatly underequiped for a siege which led to many Suhuvan forts being taken with ease in the first few months of the conflict. Vurkus also targeted the Tosselands, a Suhuvan teritory which had not been involved in either of the prievious wars and therefore was less well defended by the Suhuvans.

Vurkus' goal was to push Suhuva back to the Aratachu Mountains which would split the Suhuvan Empire in two and make trade and communication within much harder. He hoped that this would make Suhuva too weak to ever bother the Traiphotians again. He began with great sucess as he pushed in on the Tosselands from the north and the east but his attack slowed as the Suhuvans finally managed to organise a defence. The conflict draged out for another five years before eventually the Suhuvans offered a deal, giving the Traiphotians some of their easern teritories and the areas of the Tosselands that they had already captured, in exchange for the end of the conflict and Suhuvas continued use of the teritories above the Aratachu Mountains. Vurkus agreed, not getting his goal of cutting Suhuva in two but gaining a large amount of land for his empire.

Early Downfall

Peasant's Revolt

In the early -4500s the Traiphotian Empire was hit by a large plauge which killed a lot of its soldiers. In -4582 the Suhuvan Empire launched another invasion which led to the empire employing working class peasants in its army to fill the ranks. Whilst fighting for the empire the peasants expected a soldier's wages so were disappointed when they realised that they were being paid under half that amount. Furthermore kingdoms in the far west were becoming more independent of the centeral government, seperated by the Garlacocian mountains. Emperor Vuvort II had been imposed heavy taxes on them for the war effort against Suhuva which had upset the local kings.

In the early winter of -4577 a massive peasants revolt occured across the Traiphotian lands, mostle centred around the Trat Valley and Traiphotias south western teritories. With the military alreadt ocupied against the Suhuvans, Vuvort II struggled to put it down. He fled Tratin, the capital, to one of his castles to wait out the uprisings. However the peasants captured Tratin and other major cities, often supported by the officials which owned them.

After three weeks Vuvort II began withdrawing troops from the conflict with Suhuva and signed a rushed treaty which meant Traiphotia lost much of the land it had gained in the conflict so that his army could return and help him put down the rebbelion. Two months after it started, much of the revolt had been put down by the Traiphotian army but Vuvort II realised that he held much less power over his empire than he had once thought.

Succession of the Garlacocian Empire

Despite the Emperors success at putting down the peasants revolt, many kingdoms saw that he now had very little control over his teritories. To the far west the kingdom of Garlacoce took advantage of this and succeded from the Traiphotian Empire in -4571. Emperor Vuvort knew that if Garlacose was able to succeed then other kingdoms would start doing the same so raised an army to go and retake the treasonous kingdom. However, since Garlacose was cut off from the main body of the empire by the Garlacocian Mountains, most of the troops sent to retake it were from its neighboring kingdoms such as Vacana, Phaloh and Dhara. Many of these kingdoms shared Garlacoce's vision of being independent of the crumbling Traiphotian Empire and so many of them also took the oppertunity to succeed. Some kingdoms expirianced revolts such as Phaloh, whilst others such as Vacana simply pleadged alliegence to Garlacose. Garlacose's succession had caused a full crisis for the Traiphotian Empire as it had lost its mineral rich costal kingdoms and barely had the man power to retake them.

Despite his lacking army, in the year -4569 Emperor Vuvort II deployed General Rorchack to defeat the Garlacocians. Having head that the Emperor was ending an army the Garlacocians and their allies formed a uninion which was later called the Garlacocian Empire so that they could better coordinate their defences. The Garlacocian Empire was positioned behind the Garlacocian Mountains which led Rorchack to divide his forces and send them around the two sides. His forces to the north in Phaloh were defeated relativly quickly but in the south, his forces in Vacana slowly moved in for a month before being pushed out.

Rorchack had failed to retake the Garlacocian kingdoms which remained independent of Traiphotia right untill its end.

Military Coup

As Rorchack returned from the Garlacocian War he realised that the Traiphotain Empire was crumbling. He had also served in the Fourth Border War and was involved in putting down the peasant's revolt. He knew that if the Emperor didn't do something the Traiphotian Empire would fall appart. However Rorchack was also blinded by the sight of power and knew the Emperor was weak and had little support and so on his way back from Garlacose he began plotting a coup.

Only months after the Garlacosian War of -4569 General Rorchack launched his coup, arresting and eventually executing Emperor Vuvort II, ending the line of Traiphotian Emperors for good. He entitled himself has the head of the Traiphotian Empire but quickly learned he would not be able to control the entire empire alone.

Shortly after taking control in -4568, Rorchack dissolved the Traiphotian Empire, restoring authority over each of its kingdoms back to their individual King/Queens. Rorchack himself only had authority over the kingdome in the Trat Valley but an allience still existed between the old Traiphotian kingdoms that if any of them were attacked then others would come to their aid.

The regaining of independence helped many kingdoms of Traiphotia as their leaders could focus better on iternal issues and there was no taxes going out to a centeral government. In this time many empoverished kingdoms recovered well, undoing the corruption and chaos of the Tariphotian Empire's final decades. However there were still issues as the Garlacocian Empire still refused to trade with the once Traiphotian kingdoms meaning that many of them had to import raw materials from Wenstar, on the other side of Ecoth. To make matters worse, without a centeral government in the area, kingdoms were left to make their own trade deals rather than relying on distribution by officialls in the Empire. Many kingdoms joined the Garlacocian Empire to increace their trade and gain better protection which led to the increased expansion of Traiphotia's rival empire. By the -4550s many old Traiphotian kingdoms had recovered from the economic problems of the old Traiphotian Empire and were calling for a trade allience to be formed, centred in Tratin to improve trade in the area. Slowly through luse trade alliences and peace pacts the old Traiphotian kingdoms began to grow close once again, however they were still far from what the old Traiphotian Empire once was. But one event in -4542 changed all of this.

War of the Triumvirate (-4541-34)

Fith Border War (-4541-36)

As soon as the Traiphotian Empire dispanded, Emperor Husdine of Suhuva had the intent of invasion. After the Fourth Border War the Suhuvans had regained much of their lost teritories but Husdine was dissatisfied. Due to Suhuva's then depleating resources he had not forced Traiphotia's hand as much as he had wanted and once the doomed empire collapsed he began amassing forced along its border in preperation of another war. Husdine had learned from the mistakes of the Third and Fourth Border Wars and began the construction of defensive fortresses along the north west boarder from Kurth to the Tosselands. He armoured them with heavy garrisons and created stable supply lines to them. In -4556 Husdine died and his plans for invasion were passed down to his son, Valodine who was already heavily involved with the preperation.

In the summer of -4542 Valodine's forces attacked the small border kingdom of Vatavar on claims that they had been mistreating migrating tribes that were under Suhuvan protection. In reality it was to coax the main allience of old Traiphotian kingdoms into a full scale conflict. However, Rorchack had been prepared for a Suhuvan invasion for months. He had been quick to notice the Suhuvan forces gathering on the boarder and already sent aid to strengthen the sothern kingdoms. He had also prepared a massive reserve army and stocked the boarder forts for siege. When Suhuva invaded Vatavar it was still a shock and Rorchack decided that the best way to unite the kingdoms was to reform the Traiphotian Empire so that they could fight in a more organised manour. Rorchack then set out with his army from Tratin to assist the Vatavarians whilst sending detachments of other armies to strengthen the boarder. The Suhuvans were quickly pushed out of Vatavar, but now had an exuse to declare war on the whole Traiphotian Empire.

Summer -4541 was the time that major Suhuvan forces started crossing the Traiphotian border. Valodine had committed an enormas army to the assult and hoped to take Traiphotia with ease, however this was not the case. Along the boarder many Traiphotian fortresses, well supplied and garisoned held out much longer than expected. Rorchack had made sure his defences along the boarder were as strong as possible so that by -4540 the war was still a stalemate where Suhuva had made very little progress into Traiphotian teritory. However, Traiphotia was not in any position to retaliate as many of its eastern forces were stuck in walled cities and castles.

Over the winter of -4540-39 Rorchack began planning an assult into the Suhuvan teritory. His plan was to split Suhuva by taking the land down to the Aratachu Mountains then take Aratachu itself weakening Suhuva's flank. That summer he launched a major new offensive from the Tosselands and succeeded in cutting Suhuva's supply chains to the north of the Aratachu Mountains. Valodine assumed that Rorchack would then move east to ease the stress on his border fortresses but instead he moved west into Aratachu. Rorchack's attack caught the Aratachuans off guard and yielded early success as many fortifications were overrun. By late summer he had even taken the kingdom's capital after a month long siege. However, Rorchack had underestimated Suhuva's supply lines to the south of the mountains. The tactic of cutting supply lines to the north had been used on Suhuva before and Valodine had made sure that the sothern supply lines were just as strong and capeible as the north to prevent such a manover. Over the winter he began sending troops into Aratachu from the south which slowed Rorchach's advance untill it haulted completly at the port city of Yabozi. Rorchack had underestimated Valodine's ability to redeploy troops and so in the early summer of -4538 lay siege to Yabozi. However, as Suhuvan reinforcements arrived the Traiphotians found themselves fighting a war on two fronts and so after a two and a half month siege gave up. With even more Suhuvan reinforcements arriving, Rorchack was forced to abandon the Aratachu campain and retreat back to Traiphotia. This campain also saw the destruction of the small naval fleet the Traiphotians possessed at the start of the war.

Invasion by The Dynasty

By -4537 both powers were looking for a quick way out of a conflict of ever increasing cost. Traiphotia wanted a quick end after their embarising loss in Aratachu and Suhuva wanted to actually make progress into Traiphotian teritory.

And so entered Emperor Nivshnot IX of the Dynasty. He proposed that Rorchack use Dynal teritory to flank the Suhuvans from a direction that they would not expect. This alliance was informal, as the Dynal Emperor did not provide troops or supplies for the campaign and made Rorchack promice that he would not fight the Suhuvans on Dynal land. However Nivshnot had been playing both sides and also made the same deal to Emperor Valodine of Suhuva.

And so in the summer of -4536 both the Suhuvan and Traiphotian armies set out from their respective empires to traverse through Dynal teritory to launch an attack on the other, both unaware of the presence of the other.
