Knights of the Merciful Sword

The Knights of the Merciful Sword are an order of paladins that faithfully focused on the "good" tenets of their patron deity Tyr. Most are devoted to the Oath of Redemption. The Merciful Sword were very close to the Knights of Holy Judgment, both of whose members were the only faithful of Tyr who were eligible to join the ranks of the Hammers of Grimjaws.

While Tyrs worshippers traditionally took root in civilized areas, the Merciful Sword was founded in a remote river valley on the eastern edge of the Seper Range. The Knights created a refuge for people fleeing conflicts, provided they provided their first born child to serve under the banner of the Merciful Sword.

Structure

The Knights of the Mercy fell under the command of the Hammers of Grimjaws in the event of a combined effort by the clergy being required.

History

During the rise of the Sand Demons in the early 9th century, Oghma created a warforged called The Redeemer, who would represent Tyr against the Sand Demons. The Redeemer would go on to found the Knights of the Merciful Sword sometime after the conflict had ended.

Tenets of Faith

The Knights of Mercy followed the tenets of the Church of Tyr, however they maintained two important differences.

• Punishment of the guilty should always attempt to be non-violent, unless the potential for further transgressions is present.
• Intervene in any instances where innocent life may be threatened, though remember your life is worthless should it be carelessly used.
• Ask no more than is offered, unless it is a matter of life or death.

Ethics

The Knights are one of the most well-traveled of Tyrs orders, having long been ordered to wander the world to bring justice to the frontier landscapes of the world, where mercy is so often lacking.

Justice without mercy is injustice.
