Palace of Balmastaq

The largest building of Balmastaq and the administrative center of Bathrania is the Palace of Balmastaq; though is often called the Palace of the Satrap, or after the incubant satrap of Bathrania.

Purpose / Function

The Palace of Balmastaq serves as the administrative headquarters of Bathrania and is home to the High Satrap of Balmastaq. The palace was originally built to serve several other roles within Balmastaq, including holding its courts, jails and being the homebase for the cities population of soldiers.
Now however, the Palace serves a similar role but in a more expanded sense. Some courtly hearing are held in its walls, but those are limited to cases of great consequence or when existing laws come into question. Beneath the Palace is the cities treasury, though in practice it tends to act more like a personal vault for the satrap.

Alterations

The palace has expanded considerably since its original construction. Most prominent amongst the changes are the alterations made during the reign of Ahmad Bathran and his son, Maadai Ahmad; including construction of the outer wall layer, expansion of the palaces existing vault and refurbishment of the interiors.

Architecture

The palace is built mainly from a mixed sandstone similar to that used in Balmastaqs walls, composed of normal sandstone and sections of stone. The interior varies widely, though generally features high ceilings, wide hallways and square sectioned windows with flourished masonry.

Defenses

The buildings exterior features a wide wall section; around 80 foot across and 400 feet along each side, along with a steep set of stairs along the frontage. The walls stand at around 90 foot high, with slanted faces and low crenallations lining the edge. Each corner of the walls features a further square section that juts out and with a protective dome.
