Eveavion
A monarchy embroiled in near constant war with its southern neighbor, Phamos, with its citizens fleeing, if they can, to safer, quieter lands. Yet, when the war pauses as it does time and again, trade is fierce and merchants can become rich. Within this political hotbed, the land hides many secrets of its past as the former heart of the Chealain Empire.
History
Eveavion was established in 844 near the heart of the former Chealain Empire and expanded over the next couple years. In 846 it launched an attack on the Fulnard Islands in the desire for more land in power but the attack failed and Eveavion withdrew from the war. Internal disputes over power quickly developed and by 852 the new nation was a mess of quarreling nobles with the monarch holding little control. Over the next three decades this remained the status quo.
Phamos, a southern neighbor, was established in 889 and attacked Eveavion in 894. Eveavion would have fallen if not for the king’s grandson, Oakley Emerson. Moving quickly he made peace between squabbling nobles, forming them into factions and rallied them against Phamos, successfully pushing them back to the border. The king passed the throne to Oakley in 897, at the end of the war.
Oakley, and his son and grandson, ruled peacefully, holding the nation’s nobles together throughout his reign. This time has become known as the Golden Age of Eveavion as it was the longest time of peace and the most prosperous. When Oakley’s greatgrand son, Landan, took the throne on his father’s death in 982, Phamos again attacked, Landan being seen as a weaker king than his ancestors. Landan, however, proved otherwise and pushed Phamos out. But greedy for fame and wealth he continued on into Phamos (which did successfully push him out).
Since the start of Landan’s reign wars have been raging back and forth between the two nations up to the present day with a decade or two of peace between each war. The reasons have varied, but everyone believes the real reason is to be able to claim the region of the Chealain Empire’s former heartland. Around the mid 1100s, it started to become apparent that the near constant warring was taking its toll on the land, many farms within both nations now struggle under both heavy taxes, low crop yields, and a constant demand for young men to join the army. Many think that the two nations will likely destroy each other soon.
