Shimmer Gulch
"Take some ruins, a prison, a ravine, a trading post, and a bunch of people trying to make a modest living. Now throw in some magic and a divine artifact that thinks it runs the place. Shaken, with a twist of seasonal flooding. That's what I call, Shimmer Gulch. Some don't care for the aftertaste. I say it just reminds me of home."Simmer Gulch is one of The Points located in the Desolation. Shimmer Gulch has had a few names over its lifetime the previous being Aerin's Tower. Like the rest of The Points it is one of the more habitable sections of the Desolation and has been fought over and changed hands many times over the course of history.Gerrar Sunderland Bartending at the The Fearless Gate Sleekstar, 1435
The Rule of Aerin
A powerful mage by the name of Aerin was the previous ruler of this point. He took the area by force from a group of draconic cultists, built his tower and fortified the area. It was established as a trading hub for the area. Aerin's tower was known to be a lawless place where nearly anything was allowed as long as the tower was paid. Eventually, the criminal element grew stronger and more capable and with some outside assistance, attempted to overthrow Aerin. Not much is known about what happened during the uprising but the result left no one alive and is said to be the originating of the ravine. Aerin's Tower itself still remains and is itself the most recognizable landmark in the gulch and the surrounding areas. it is a square tower made of white marble with gold veins, standing some 60 ft tall with a polished bronze orb floating above it. The door stands wide open but no one enters. The marble steps and garden that surround it, however, is where all the important matters of the city are discussed and decided. The Mantle of Aerin
The ruins laid empty for a handful of years until some curious explorers determined to find out the fate of the city. What they found was the ruin, the gulch and the tower. Seizing the opportunity they rebuilt the trading post and named the city after the white crystals that lined the ravine. They avoided the Tower for a few years but eventually, the same curiosity that brought them there in the first place drove them to explore the Tower. They were never seen again however the next day The Mantle of Aerin appeared in the city. It appears as a tall humanoid in white plate mail with a jewel-encrusted helmet and teal cape. Since that day it moves around the city defending it from threats from the outside and imposing the laws that are ratified by the White Senate in the towers garden. The Gulch
The city sits on both sides of the ravine on top and down the inside at various levels. The Osman caravans come through to cross the ravine and stop to trade and resupply. Various agricultural resources are grown on the sides of the gulch and the residents and businesses have learned how to fortify their dwellings against the floods that come through the ravine. Ruins of the fortifications still surround the city and are used by the local militia for city defense. The city has 4 districts:- The Well
- The Gulch
- The Garden
- The Silkhorn
