Aundair, The Crystalline Haven (On-Day-Ear)

Aundair is one of the five nations of the original Kingdom of Galifar. Although much of its western forest territory has now become the Eldeen Reaches, Aundair still possesses beautiful swaths of fertile fields that supply the five nations with grain and wine. Large institutions of higher learning output scholars that seek to understand the legendary ecosystem of Aundair, and its naturally magical creatures and resources. Despite its losses in the Last War, Aundair now explores a new form magic, as its walls are now inlaid with humming crystals, and gemstone spires filled with knowledge soar above its citizens, Aundair has begun to prosper like none other.

Structure

Since the dawn of the Last War, Aundair has always been an absolute monarchy, Queen Aurala Amaranthine Ar'Wynarn currently rules the region and her say is final for all matters. However, in the practice of handling major events that will effect all members of Aundairian society, Aundair is governed by an official council known as the Primastic Quorum, consisting of Queen Aurala; her consort the Emerald Magistrate, Killian Ar'Wynarn; the Governor of Fairhaven and leader of Aurala's Diplomatic Corp, Prince Aurad Ar'Wynarn; the First Warlord of the Realm and Royal Minister of Magic, Prince Adal Ar'Wynarn; the Second Warlord of the Realm and General Commander of the Obsidian Blades, Lord Darius Ar'Ellaine; the Third Warlord of the Realm and Spymaster of the Opal Eyes of Amaranthine, Lord Helio Ar'Raccanoch; the Fourth Warlord of the Realm and Admiral of the Onyx Fleet, Lord Malok Ar'Berul. The presence of these seven are required to make any large decisions across Aundair, and each play a pivotal role in making the Capital of Magic what it is today. Outside of these , Aurala has split the power of the throne amongst several noble houses and titles, who assist in governing groups of fiefdoms and cities, alongside any minor matters within them.

Culture

Aundair's people are a model of duality. Split between rugged hard working agriculturalists and learned, bookish individuals the "typical" Aundairian is anything but. Its people have a tendancy to approach situations in a similar manner, few Aundairians heed the simple life, but those that do typically try to find the easiest solution to their world's problems, blindly following scholarly advice and looking to ancient faiths for answers. Others --typically those that live within the massive metropolises that dot the Aundairian landscape-- question their surrounding's, wondering why the world is built the way it is: do the Sovereigns truly reside within every part of the world, does the radiant light of the Silverflame truly burn away that which shrouds itself in shadows, or do the rings that surround the world truly provide magic as spoken of in legends. All these questions are asked with the intent to better their Kingdom so that all may prosper within the magical land of Aundair.   Aundairians are known for their somewhat arrogant attitudes. Although arrogance is hardly a trait unique in the Five Nations, Aundairians learn at a young age the results of a strong will in competition with others. Though, that is not to say that every Aundairian is stubborn, or thick-headed, but that they will not easily concede a point they believe to be right, especially debates of the magical variety or ancient history. This behavior though is typical of those that attend the three prestigious institution based within Aundair, where in the pursuit of a magic filled future, success can sometimes be too rewarding and lead some to ignore the thoughts of others. This while uncharacteristically barbaric are where public duels, of both the martial and magic variety have become a staple of Aundairian Society, when mere words may not settle a dispute, a show of battle prowess will.   Many Aundairians are very fashion-conscious, more so than the people of the other nations of Khorvarie. At the forefront of modern fashion trends are the nobles who wear bright colors, feathered hats, long skirts, coats or cloaks, and the famous glamerweave illusory clothing. The lower class cannot afford to keep up with the trends set by the nobles. However, most own at least one fashionable outfit which they preserve for special occasions; these outfits are often outdated by a generation or two but typically get the job done. For there is no greater dishonor than being underdressed.

Public Agenda

Aundair seeks to lead the continent of Khorvarie in the pursuits of magical understanding and knowledge. Whether it be scripting and creating spells that would allow expansion into distant lands, or recording every factoid of known history and utilizing that knowledge to uncover ruins lost to the times prior to the Great Houses. Aundair focuses much of its time in the building of its massive repertoire of knowledge that resides within the crystalline spires that soar alongside its palace.   Recently they've spent much of their time utilizing and enhancing the Crystalline magic discovered and founded by the Amethyst Queen Aurala Amaranthine Ar'Wynarn, who has been revolutionizing and empowering Aundair's military, government, and defensive capabilities with the assistance of House Cannith's eastern Baron, Jorlanna d'Cannith. Ensuring that if tensions rise once more, Aundair will be the victor during ensuing wars.
