Battle of Briar Glen

The Battle of Briar Glen was a significant battle in the Eventide, notable for being the first major open confrontation between the surface and the forces of Mavislak Yen-Ixir, and for the death of Prince Zuros Fairfell.   The battle was fought between a company of 62 Jeltiri soldiers led by Prince Zuros and approximately 200 drow nightbringers led by Captain Vaden Avritane, son of Elerra Avritane. The prince's company was less than a mile outside of the town of Briar Glen, the next stop of their tour to assess the defenses of several major cities of Caimrell and Nerislynn, when they were confronted by the enemy. The battle was an overwhelming victory for the nightbringers, who swiftly defeated the company and stayed to engage with the wave of guardsmen who arrived from Briar Glen. They departed shortly afterwards, and though several guards and trackers tried to follow their trail, many of them were eliminated by nightbringers who had detached from the company and lay in ambush.   The aftermath led to great unrest in the cities of Jeltir and, ironically, greater support of King Talesan Fairfell, who had ordered a travel ban to protect his subjects earlier in the year. It marked the end of any doubt that the Eventide could be considered an armed conflict or true war. Historians and tacticians agree almost unanimously that the nightbringers' main purpose of the confrontation was to eliminate Prince Zuros and thereby communicate that their sights were set on the highest authority in the land.
