Theirs was an arranged marriage as Kuen Hainaut sought to expand her family's dominance in Verschow politics, and an alliance with Wilhelm's House Aribond provided her with the resources needed to defend her family in a bitter turf war.
Wilhelm and Marwen developed a close bond during their centuries of marriage, though he grew concerned for his wife as she moved forward with plans to take control of the Verschow. His powers of divination warned him that this campaign would have devastating consequences, but Marwen was determined to fulfill her mother's dreams of turning House Hainaut into a regional powerhouse. She accomplished this in the 760's following a bitter civil war, but not before facing the devastating consequences she'd been warned about. Wilhelm was assassinated by a member of House Ripperda in 767, leaving Marwen mired in a guilt-ridden depression that would take her decades to recover from.
