Church of 9 Lives

The Church of 9 Lives is an organised religion in Hidalgo. Rather than spreading the teachings of a particular deity (they still believe in The Goddess) they teach the doctrine of 9 Lives - that all Leonin live 9 lifetimes before passing on to the afterlife.
The more lives a Leonin has lived through, the stronger they become - either physically, mentally, or both. Most Leonin do not remember their past lives, but there are a small number who claim to have memories of previous lifetimes.
When a Leonin child looses their first tooth, the tooth is checked for rings. The number of rings is meant to indicate the number of previous lives they have had. This quite often dictates the kind of role the child will have in Hidalgo. Those with 8 rings are expected to become great warriors, leaders, or both.
