Hiku City

Hiku City (often referred simply as 'Hiku') is a city of luxury and peace. As the most southern settlement in Kureta, it enjoys warmer weather throughout the year and is a very popular holiday spot for the wealthy during the summer months. Its proximity to the coast also plays into this, and the city profits greatly from tourism.   Hiku's position on the southern border also makes it a popular place for trade between Kureta and its southern neighbours. This gives the city a much more diverse range of characters and cultures, which is seen in the types of food, clothing, and other items the city has to trade.   The architecture of Hiku City is vastly different to the rest of Kureta. The buildings are kept low, with two-story buildings being quite rare. Most structures are built of stone, to withstand the salty sea winds that blow in from the east. Despite the city's proximity to the sea, the air is often filled with scents other than salt - be that exotic perfumes, spices or the sweat of men working in the hot sun. The fashion in Hiku tends towards light billowy dress, to make the most of the sea breeze that cools the city during the hotter months. Travellers to the city are usually easy to spot, as they may be unprepared for the climate and culture of Hiku.   The citizens of Hiku are usually very laid back and keep a slow pace. Rarely will a Hikute rush to complete a task that isn't urgent.   This laid-back attitude is reflected in the governance of the city - a council of 6 who run a democratic society. New bills and laws are rarely passed in Hiku due to the amount of effort involved in changing the status quo - this comes at much annoyance to anybody who wishes to see change in the city and can make it difficult for other cities to deal with the southern settlement.

What a city! The sights, the sounds, the smells! One must be careful not to become too overwhelmed in our nation's southernmost settlement, lest they fall victim to the ragamuffins who will steal a paintbrush just as readily as your coin purse, or travel rations, basically anything not tightly strapped to your body.
