The Reapers

The Reapers are a band of mercenaries who operate throughout Kureta. They can be hired by anyone with enough coin. Although their business is controversial, they are never short of work.   The Reapers are constantly struggling against the Order of the Shield as much of their work is typically violent and illegal. For this reason, they have no known base of operations, but when somebody needs the aid of a Reaper, they have a habit of making themselves known.   Many (or possibly all, it's never been confirmed) Reapers can be identified by their emblem - "the eye in the scythe" - which will be tattooed somewhere on their body.

Public Agenda

Unlike other mercenary guilds which generally operate within the law, The Reapers have no qualms with doing whatever they are paid to do. They are famously callous in their dealings with others and will quickly betray a patron if they get a better offer elsewhere.   Making money is their primary goal. Anybody can hire a Reaper, provided they have the coin to do so. Reapers have been known to switch allegiances half-way through missions when a would-be victim of their actions has paid them a higher price to cease. The Reapers are efficient, but costly, and hiring one does not come without risk.   The Reapers will do practically anything for coin, within the realm of mercenary work. If you're looking for caravan guards though, you'd be better off looking elsewhere. Likewise, if you're looking for an assassin, you'd better make sure your mark can't afford to outbid you...

History

The Reapers were founded as a mercenary guild in 1692 by their leader Tarhorn Nightmane. They began life as an above-board guild, operating out of Nakaba. Their primary service was providing protection, bolstering town guards, or acting as personal bodyguards.   At some point in the 1740's, things seemed to take a turn. The Reapers began accepting more illicit jobs, most likely tempted by the high prices they could charge for such deeds. This eventually caused issues with Nakaba's Patrolmen, who clashed with the mercenaries on multiple occasions. By 1750 the guild had been shut down completely, their assets seized, and base of operations closed. Tarhorn was arrested, along with several other high-ranking members of the guild, but it wasn't to last. Reapers, still loyal to their leader, broke Tarhorn out of prison, escaping into the night.   It didn't take long for the "Reaper" name to begin spreading again. With a new secret base somewhere, The Reapers now operate across the country - taking any job offered to them, if the coin is right.   Not wanting to draw too much attention to themselves, their members now keep to the shadows - often posing as mercenaries from other guilds. A Reaper can typically be identified by the "eye in the scythe" tattoo, which will be hidden somewhere on their body. This is their means of properly identifying themselves to their fellow mercenaries, and patrons.
