Whisper's Guild report - 0.5.3 agf
Without fear, or favour
A group of adventurers assembled in the bottom story of the Tower of the Magi to meet Mylmar, who had recently been banished from the guild for his role in shattering the veil between worlds and disturbing the rest of the Sleeping King. On leaving the tower, they found themselves in the company of Whisper overlooking the city of Tokmor. They were led into the city's heart, to sublevel C (the most populated level of the city), under Whisper's covering illusion. Whisper pointed out several key points of the city as they walked - the city never sleeps, due to the illumination of the Firestone. The city's industry is relentless, and most of the lower classes work 12 hour shifts. And most of the denizens of the city prolong their own life by drawing from the life-force of others. The lower castes rely on wildlife...the elite Sunbloods draw their power from their own kind.
Whisper explained his long term plan was to flood the city, an atrocity that would kill all Sunbloods and end their tyranny but cause many thousands of innocent deaths. It was a test. With Jinx Velvetpaw, Toulson and Garrotte seeming all too willing to go along with the plan, only the ranger Medea called Whisper out for his high-handed and reckless judgement of others in the pursuit of the greater good. Whisper then conceeded the plan was not entirely as described - he had left out the key detail that he had been in contact with the Tokmor rebellion and Councilor Teelak to attempt to evacuate as many civilians as possible before he flooded the city at some unknown future date.
In the meantime, he needed the adventurer's aid to convince the Appeasers to take part of their protection against the impending collapse of the veil elsewhere, to the far edge of Starfall Lake where the wood elves and druids of the area where otherwise unprotected. The section of the city that would, as a result, fall to the nightmare was dominated by the Sunbloods, who would take the brunt of the casualties that resulted. More importantly, the failure of the Tokmor authorities to protect the city could be used by the Rebellion to spread panic, possibly persuading many other innocents to leave the city ahead of time.
The adventurers found a small group of Appeasers beginning to close the portal in the Sunblood quarter. They convinced their leader, Du'malth, to leave, but his second in command, Prus, revealed he had already made a deal with Auxum to give his all to close the portal here. While Prus closed one portal, the adventurers guarded 2 others, allowing Whisper time and space to spread fear throughout the innocent servants of the Sunbloods and convince about 7000 of them to leave, while another 1300 (and approximately 5000 less-than-innocent Sunbloods) would remain behind to ultimately fall to the aberrations.
While the party guarded the portals, the leader of the Appeasers, Du'malth, returned and appeared to turn into a Pit Fiend, revealing his own patron to be Auxum. The fiend assailed the party, but was ultimately defeated. There was no sign of Du'malth in the aftermath of the fight.
Whisper completed his task and called for an evacuation from his old romantic interest, Reason. Back on the outskirsts of the lake, Reason was seen carefully documenting glowing blue bulges under the ground.
