William 'Whisper' Bregan
William Bregan was born to Baron Jesep Bregan of Dingaford (on the world of Kosinost) and his wife Maria about 400 years ago. He was the youngest of three children – his sister Claire, 13 years older, and brother Jacob, 10 years older. He enjoyed a comfortable childhood and was marked at an early age for admission to Kolostia's school of wizardry, which he would have been admitted to at age 12 if not for his father’s actions.
Baron Jesep Bregan succeeded from Kolostia in an action that would be known as the Chaplain’s Rebellion. In response, the King sent his brother Prince Uric in command of half the army. The rebellion would end when Uric destroyed Dingaford and gutted the family keep with fire, bombarding it with Firestone from siege weapons. The entire Bregan family was killed in the flames. Bound to Jesep in undeath, William resided as a tortured echo of his former self, little more than a mindless ghost. He was pulled from this state in a ritual by Rhillaine in an attempt to bring the region to order (She had been targeting Jesep in an attempt to bring his spirit to rest, but Jesep’s spirit had become twisted into a vampire and was irredeemable).
William learned of the magic arts and then served the guild alongside Polina Mikalan until about 100 years ago, when he and Polina disappeared. Several decades later, key members of the guild began to be killed or driven insane. Often they were killed by their own guildmates under some form of enchantment, who would later wake and give terrified, babbling accounts of a crow haunting their dreams. This came to a head recently when the murderer, Whisper, destroyed the kingdom of Kolostia, and was identified as William Bregan.
Guild intelligence file - for senior members only, authorised by Charles Penrose
- Known to prefer psychic and mind magic, enchantment and illusion.
- Capable of wielding otherworldly power. He has not 'rewritten' anyone but does seem capable of removing people from existence, leaving behind not even a memory. Bring Restoration magic when engaging him, otherworldly corruption will accumulate and degrade a victim's mental defenses but swift application of restoration spells will prevent total collapse of the victim's presence in reality.
- Able to concentrate on multiple spells at once, but has difficulty concentrating in the presence of an ongoing, uncontrolled fire
- Can cast limited spells while polymorphed as a crow. For some reason his crow form always has a white crest.
- DO NOT engage Whisper while he is flying. He is a true master of flight.
Classification revoked - 0.0.3 After Guildfall, authorisation Breac Sunfist.
Twisted by Nathrael and his forces from beyond reality, Whisper was declared beyond redemption and a bounty for his life was issued. He was hunted and finally brought to justice by guild adventurers - at the cost of several of their lives. Whisper fell in Dingaford on a distant world. Bounty collected by Grievely, Pooka, Silverblade, Sedrut, Varus and Anara, 0.0.7 Before Guildfall.
Amendment 0.0.5 agf - Nathrael's rewritting of this world has resulted in Dingaford appearing...here, on Elanora. A few days journey north of the guild hall. All locals seem to remember Dingaford always being here, which it assuredly was not, and all non-Guild records have been mysteriously altered to include the land in the local history. As disconcerting as this is, I have confirmed Whisper remains deceased. File closed. Miko - stop pulling it out and adding to it! B.SF.
Amendment...I've been putting this off for too long. Yes. I resurrected Whisper. I intended to resurrect William Bregan. What returned calls himself Whisper - but he has not destroyed the guild. I'm certain if he wanted to, he could, but he seems to have something else in mind. If this all turns to ill...what could I possibly say? I'm sorry. I was desperate, and I made the best decision I could at the time. All I can do now is hope everyone else doesn't pay with their lives - Breac Sunfist, High Cleric of the Little Warriors.
