Chiang Lung

Chiang lungs, also known as river dragons, are wingless lung dragons that inhabit bodies of water in Lungao.

Description

Chiang lungs are physically distinguished by their enormous size, up to 158 feet in length. Their scales are various shades of green or blue, and adults have multi-colored beards. As they are polymorphs, they are frequently seen in human form only.

Biology

Chiang lungs are omnivores. Their diet consists of minerals, gems, dish, sheep, or other large mammals. Their lairs are usually frequented by lesser spirits, who act as aides or bodyguards. At birth they can immediately breath both water and air. Despite being wingless, they can fly thanks to magical blue pearls which are embedded in their brains.

Combat

Chiang lung will avoid combat when possible, but are savage fighters nonetheless. In melee combat they use their claws, fangs, and tails which inflict severe damage to their opponents. When in human form, a chiang lung is almost always armed with a massive sword.

Abilities

A chiang lung has several innate magical abilities, gaining more as they grow older. The dragon can polymorph self three times a day into any form it wishes. THey generate storm clouds at will, causing rain whenever desired. They can also lower the water level within a 1 square mile radius, with this range increasing as they grow older. A creature in physical contact with the dragon is able to breathe and move underwater with the same effects as the water breathing and freedom of movement spells.   A mature chiang lung can use at will augury, bane, bless, control weather, control wings, dispel evil, divination, fate, master of the rolling river, omen, and remove curse. Three times per day a mature chiang lung can use polymorph self. Once per day a mature chiang lung can use major creation, reward, and tsunami.

Homelands

Outside of Lungao, chiang lungs are known to occasionally be found in ancient forests and large rivers.

Celestial Bureaucracy

Within the Celestial Bureaucracy, chiang lungs serve as guardians of lakes and rivers and bring rain. They work for the Ministry of Thunder, which in turn answers to the Celestial Empire. The chiang lung are the lords and guardians of lakes and rivers; every such body of water is the jurisdiction of a single chiang lung, but they rarely show themselves to humans outside their jurisdiction. They have the duties of making or bringing rain and managing water flows, and are responsible to the Bureaucracy for the denizens of the water within their jurisdictions. Shen lung are assigned to act as guards and assistants to chiang lung by the Celestial Bureaucracy and take this duty very seriously.
