Sweet Maribelle's

Purpose / Function

Sweet Mirabelle's is a small local bakery nestled within a narrow alley in Castival. The shop specializes in a variety of baked goods, but primarily pastries and breads. The shop is known for its warm and inviting atmosphere and Mirabelle tries to make sure everyone feels welcome. While she is far too poor to produce goods for a noble's palette, she makes good use of carrots, sweet fruits, and the small amounts of sugar she can afford to give those hoping for something sweet the relief they need.

Alterations

Since its establishmet, Sweet Mirabelle's has undergone several alterations. Initially a simple single-room bakery, it has been expanded to include a small sitting room for customers to rest while they eat. THe kitchen has been upgraded with more modern baking equipment, although the original oven, cherished by the owner, remains in use. Mirabelle prefers to keep the rustic and "homey" appearance of the shop, and so tries to change as little as possible, only making alterations to help the customer's overall experience.

Architecture

Sweet Mirabelle's has a charming and rustic style, constructed primarily from local stone and reclaimed wood. The exterior has ivy covering many parts, climbing the walls of the alley, but Mirabelle always makes sure the door and window are free of the stuff. The interior beams have exposed wooded trusses and stone walls.

History

Since its opening, Sweet Maribelle's has been operated by Maribelle's family. Maribelle herself inherited the bakery from her grandparents, who founded it with the dream of creating a gathering place for the community. Over the years, the bakery has wirnessed numerous local events and has become a beloved gathering place for those who know of it, but as the city grew, the alley became less and less used, and with it the number of customers who visit the shop dwindled. Currently, the shop is beginning to run only on the savings Mirabelle has put away, and is struggling to earn enough money just to keep its doors open.
