The Chaos of Mossley
After the fall of king Thomas Stormchaser at The Tragedy of Dunia, the Elladonians camped out the winter on their side of Elladonian borders. Returning to Theria in the Month of the First Rays, General Ravencrest led his armies alongside the newly crowned king and former crown prince Charles Stormchaser to the west of Theria. They circled around Holden for the second time, now through Stumbleglen and up to Mossley. Outside of Mossley a large detachment of clerics and paladins from The Order of The First Dawn and Order of the Giving Blade, alongside wizards of The Arcanium Index had camped out, waiting for the Elladonian army to arrive. Due to the melting of the snow just a month prior and continuous rainfall through the month the ground was torn up though, and the main army took two weeks longer to arrive at the rendezvous point than expected. Supplies were low.
Therian scouts happened upon the Elladonians early in the morning, as camp was just about to break. The Therian army had weathered out in the mountains north of Mossley, and was now coming down from the plateau to seek out the Elladonian army and drive them out of their land once and for all.
Before either army had any time to prepare, they had clashed. The lack of proper battlelines actually worked much to the advantage of the invading forces. The Therian Mage Hunters had a hard time to protect the small pockets their soldiers managed to cut out for themselves in the fray, where the Index wizards were able to quickly annihilate even larger groups of enemy soldiers no matter the circumstances.
Within this fray was a situation that almost warranted the battle to be called the Tragedy of Mossley. A fringe group of Mage Hunters had cut their way through the Elladonian forces, including Paladins of the First Dawn, Giving Blade and Index wizards. Their target was a hill on which the newly crowned king Charles Stormchaser stood with some of his closest companions. Multiple mage hunters got together to communely cast a powerful incineration ray, aimed at the king, but as it was cast it struck a person still regarded as a hero and household name in Elladonia. This woman was Paulina Sungold, a Cleric of the First Dawn. She had noticed the Mage Hunters begin their cast and heroically cast herself in the line of fire. Paulina got hit and died shortly thereafter. The mage hunters were beaten swiftly after that and the rest of the Therian forces routed as well. The large losses on both sides made it difficult for either kingdom to call it a victory. Only strategically was Elladonia now in the driver’s seat, as the Therian forces needed time to regroup in the north, now cut off from their capital by the Elladonian army.
Paulina’s family was posthumously awarded land in the small town of Beckton for her sacrifice on the battlefield.
