The Creation of the Beastkin

Around the year 650 in the Heroic Era, a large High Elven research team that had been studying the evolution of magic for thousands of years reached a breakthrough in their research regarding fusion. Being funded by the high elven royal family they had promised to find a way to enhance soldiers to make them more effective in battle. As High Elves faced a lot of tension since they had refused to assist any of the other races during The Great Disaster, they found this a necesity, as they feared war with the Humans. The research team began working with the goal to create beings that were strong but also intelligent enough to follow orders. They began experimenting on prisoners and criminals, using what they had learnt to fuse them with animals, giving them animal properties. But as the countries prisoners and criminals were not enough to experiment on, they began aquiring slaves to increase the size of their experiments.   The experiments they performed were gruesome, where they tested which animal traits could be of the most use and even if one being could hold traits from more than one animal. They even attempted the same experiments with aberrations and monstrosities which resulted in an extremely low success rate.   With the experiment quickly underway the amount of slaves turned monsters were quickly increasing, and after a few decades of this the Angels learnt about it's existance. They quickly stepped in to stop the experiments and free the slaves. The slaves and criminals that had been experimented on were declared a new race and granted land to the south of Strathos in an attempt to give them a chance of building up civilization for themselves.   Now called the Beastkin, the decendants of the slaves still live in the very land that the angels granted them.   Though the High Elves did not leave this unscratched, they faced heavy consequences to their leadership and economy. They also lost the trust of the other countries and for many decades lived fearing the potential wars that could be declared against them.
