Alfredo northeast bedroom

Purpose / Function

The northeast bedroom has always been intended for the oldest surviving dependent of the owner, which early in Ludwig and Mia's marriage was Vítězslav de Alfredo (who made ownership of his ranch a wedding gift from himself and his late spouse to his son and new daughter-in-law). Careful inspection will see where a temporary wall once existed between the northmost half of the room and the rest: it connected just a half-inch north of the center window on the east wall, with a doorway close to the western wall.
For as long as he can remember, this is Big Mauri's room. He used to believe that the morning sun rose specifically to pester him out of bed -- hence his daybed now having a cloth-covered side between him and the northern window on the east wall.

Entries

The main door into this bedroom is in the west wall near the northwest corner of the room, not flush against the north wall but close to it. It opens into the room, swinging southward, so that only the edge of the room is visible until someone fully enters.
On the south wall in the eastern corner, another door opens away into Big Lui's bedroom. This door is normally kept shut and may be locked from Big Lui's side.

Of all bedrooms, this one has the most windows: two on the north wall, three on the east wall. All are double-hung, fully dressed with shades, curtains, and valances.

Denizens

Big Mauri de Alfredo has been the resident of this room for thirty-nine years.

Contents & Furnishings

In the northeast corner, Big Mauri has a cloth-covered daybed -- Big Lui calls it a "couch" but that is not strictly correct -- with a low, round table in easy reach and an overstuffed armchair close enough for casual company. A matching overstuffed armchair usually is down in the southwest corner near the map cabinet. Big Mauri has a free-standing floor lamp in the northeast corner that he almost never uses, preferring the magic lights built into his map cabinet.

Alterations

The temporary wall was removed from this "northeast suite" once Mauri and Lui both were teenagers. They no longer needed a neutral space between them, and Mauri needed room for his collection of travelogues and maps and land usage histories. Mauri had many visitors from the nearest Orisnuc sauri to look over his assembled maps and charts, contradict anything that did not match their inherited legends, and occasionally warn Mauri of a potential danger. For their comfort, he wanted a variety of comfortable chairs and a big, low table to hold his maps.
Big Lui is content to let his older brother do the fact-researching so long as Big Lui keeps charge of the number-crunching. This arrangement suits both brothers well, which is why the suite door on the eastern edge of the south wall still grants access between Big Mauri's expanded room and Big Lui's more compact quarters.
