21 Meloragift, 4520: The Scouring of Belhaim

Arkomir writes...   Our group consists of me, as well as:

We head through the sewers following Alden's directions and come to our exit point. I ascend the ladder and listen - then push through the opening. We are in our area of the city and arrange ourselves in an area we can ambush a patrol. Kezahr sends her raven, Sid, and we enter our ambush. We fight our way through two patrols and then rest up and head for the triways. We head back into the sewers to move sneakily to the triways. I have a chat with Kezahr on the way through the sewers to reassure her about the next steps. We arrive at the next point to head up to the triways. Kezahr looks ahead with Sid and reports back. There are:

  • 6-7 hobgoblins in the triways
  • 2-3 worgs
  • 2 or so goblins
  • The lead Hobgoblin (in the red armour)

We make our way toward the triways and see that the bonfire we saw from the tower is still burning. There is a bunch of noise and they appear to be rousing and organising. Our other groups are making their way to the triways. We make our way to a point where we can arrange ourselves. The square is more or less triangular. The front of The Lonely Forest tavern is visible. There are some priests and merchants (a mix of Human, gnome, dwarf, halflings) hanging dead from the balcony of the tavern. We see Nedgroph and the dwarves enter the square at a run. The Manor crew are making their way via the rooftops. Kugulex says we need to move. Devlin makes his way to us and hands Dharra a battleaxe. Dharra gives him a quick heal and he heads back to his group.

We enter the tavern and into battle. We despatch the Red Hobgoblin and his cronies. Looking back out the door after our battle we see a bunch of dead goblins and a bunch of dead Hobgoblins & worgs. We head to the balcony of the tavern and hold the hobgoblion warlords head aloft. Dharra tells them of the death of the hobgoblin warlord and I scream:

FOR BELHAIM!!!

We investigate the rooms of the tavern and the dead bodies. There are human remains upstairs along with some makeshift bedding. There is a pile in the corner of books and bundles of paper. Dharra finds a piece of worn hide with the T-shaped sigil. On a small table there is a rectangular blank space where a small chest once stood. We also find some coin and some more darts which we pocket.

Outside the tavern we make our way toward Moulten. To our right, a bunch of freed townsfolk walk up the road with the Lord Advocate from the fish market. The Lord Advocate tries to take responsibility for the ending of the siege. Dharra tries to convince the gathered throng of the truth. Moulten takes his moment and challenges the Advocate. The Lord Advocate calls for a champion - no one steps forward. He forfeits and leaves the town to Moulten’s rule.

The Prime Judge Walton Valtervold starts to leave the Triways and Kezahr sends Sid to follow him, to see which direction he goes. As Gareth Valtervoldstarts to leave, Walton starts to cough and then slides off his horse - dead. Gareth Valtervold accuses us of killing his brother - but we manage to circumvent that. He flees but I chase him down and dispatche him - vowing revenge for the women folk of the tower. On his body we find a fine rapier, a signet ring with the seal of Belhaim, a bunch of other rings (some with diamonds), a bunch of chains with gems as well as 80 platinum, 80 gold, 80 silver.

I make my way back toward Moulten and hand back the rapier rings and coin. Moulten relieves us of duty but asks us to come and see him later. The town retreats into the tower for the rest of the day and we take a short rest. There appears to be no sign of the Manor House folk.

We make our way to see Moulten. He thanks us for our help and gifts us three diamonds - each in excess of 1000 Gold. He also gifts us a doss lute, a coiled string (a bowstring), a bottle with two small pieces of dweomotite and a deed to a manor house in the city. We speak to Alden outside the office about a healer. He says that in the hills to the south of here there is a man in a mining encampment. His name is Luke (he thinks). The settlement is called Darin's Fall.

Alden will give us some ideas as to a person to look after our new house.
