Chapter 12: Supper Dupper Mooseem! 11/10 Wud Rekomend!
General Summary
This day begins and ends on the 5th of Abarat.
Our heros dreamt of the past and the present, some more soundly than others.
They woke up and began their day by wishing goodbye to Falaern. Jacquora requested a small backpack for Sari to the tune of 5 gp. Arik told her it would take him about two days to complete it. After seeing themselves out, they made their way to Empire Circle and the Resplendant Spire. As they made their way through the circle they noticed a large number of Ysoki traders (ratfolk) who had made camp there.
In the Resplendant Spire, they made their way up to the National Museum of Emaniquora where gallery guard and tour guide Alfonse D'riol'sha, a human man from The Gatipids with long blonde hair and beard, greeted them. He mentioned that since the tourist season had not yet quite picked up, he would be glad to give them a private tour. He also told them that calling him "Al" was okay.
He led them through the galleries and told them all he knew about the House of Luthyra of Luthyra, an elven ducal house, since they seemed more interested in them. He told them that it was founded long ago, Pre-Unity, but they truly made a name for themselves during The Unity Period. It was then that Rolla Luthyra served as the right-hand person to Loras Hamonet. Rollo was the General of the Empirical Armies and led the seige on Ilythyra near the end of the Unity Period.
He additionally told them that there are three current members of the House of Luthyra. They were able to find out more through an interactive exhibit that let them look up the lineages of the houses. The current head of the house is Duke Leomer Luthyra who is around 100 years old. The middle child is Duchess Petronelle Luthyra who is the Head of the Arnsholdi branch of the Luthyra Family. She is unmarried and about 75 years old. The youngest is Duchess Elora Luthyra who lives in Arnsholdi with her sister. She is married to Haldir Zinfyl, the head of a prominent elven mining family.
At the end of the tour they made their way to the final exhibit titled "Jewels of the Emanii" showcasing important pieces of jewelry in the collection of the museum or on loan. Upon entering they were able to find two pieces of jewelry belonging to the Luthyra family: a pair of gold and ruby pomegranate cufflinks, one symbol of the house of Luthyra; and a pair of golden dragonfly earrings inset with diamonds and emeralds, clutching ruby pomegranates, both symbols of the House. Turning around, Inhe and Lenihlra both were stopped in their tracks by a vision of Thydona Ezohr. She told them they were close to her and she pleaded once more with them to help her.
They were able to trace the source of the vision to a necklace inset with strings of pearls and a large crystal pendant. As they came out of their vision, they were able to see a trace of blueish smoke and light fade from the crystal. Lenihlra was able to determine that it might be a soul stone, but that she didn't know much else beyond that. They contacted Falaern, who was still in the city, to come and inspect the necklace with them. Upon arriving she had a similar vision. Inhe drew back some curtains so no one would notice what was happening.
A few moments after coming out of her vision, a guard pulled back the curtains and informed them that if they wanted a private showing they would have to arrange for that, otherwise they needed to leave the curtains open. Both Lenihlra and Falaern were able to determine that the necklace was strongly magical and that the room was likely booby trapped given the magical aura that it gave off. Falaern also informed them that statues of Thydona usually depict her with this necklace and that it was likely hers. They left soon after to formulate a plan to heist the necklace out of the museum. Before leaving, they left some comment cards to let the museum staff know that Al, the unpaid intern, did a stellar job! Some were moer well-written than others.
After drinking and inviting Al to The Umbral Inn, they formulated a rough plan. Lenihlra would assume a disguise with the help of Arik and Falaern. She would then go request a private showing so that they could see how that worked and work out guard schedules. Additionally, they learned that curator Yssa Deerborn, a halfling, was having some ghost troubles. They figured that if they helped her, they might be able to figure out what some of the traps that guarded the necklace were. They knew that they needed to heist the necklace on a day that Al was not working, which would be seven days in the future, on the 12th. Finally, they would break in once they figured out the traps and the schedules. Falaern told them that she would likely not be able to assist them in the heist, but she might be able to arrange from transport to Ilythyra should they be successful.
She upgraded their rune stone to last a bit longer before leaving to return to Ilythyra so as to throw off suspicion with her mother. The three heros went to bed to ruminate on their plans that lay ahead of them.
Some of the incredible objects in the exhibit included:
The necklace that might contain the soul of Thydona Ezohr.
The pair of earrings on loan from the House of Luthyra.
The pair of cufflinks on loan from the House of Luthyra.
A large ancient crown.
