Chapter 13: The Best Laid Plans...

General Summary

The following events occured between the 6th to 13th of Abarat.
The party of three began by visiting Yssa Deerborn, a curator at the National Museum of Emaniquora. As they approached the Resplendant Spire they encountered a large batallion of nearly 400 Empirical soldiers making their way north. When they entered the Museum they encountered Al again who told them of the tension up north in The Gatipids. Though not entirely unusual, it was still notable in that the border skirmishes had begun to increase.
Their visit to Yssa was part of their plan to steal the necklace, possibly a soul stone holding Thydona Ezohr, from the museum. They encountered Yssa in front of the exhibit causing her issues, confronting a guard. Al introduced the group to his supervisor who allowed them into the exhibit, which was cordoned off.
In the exhibit they encounted the spirit of Torsten Hartvig (see The Gatipidian Rebellions for more information.) He angrily fought against the group until Inhe, seizing an orb on one of the display plinths, threatened to destory it. Hartvig paused at this and stopped attacking the group. He told them he was angry because his bones had been moved from his homeland of The Gatipids up north. He promised the group that if his bones were returned he would stop harassing the museum. As a reward, he gave them the orb and moved shards of wood and glass where the orb once sat to make it appear as if it had been shattered during the fray.
Yssa returned and the group told her the reason for the haunting. She agreed to return the bones. She left the reward up to the group, who asked to see some of the jewels in the new exhibit, The Jewels of the Emanii. They tried on the earrings and the crown they saw in their previous visit. Jacquora asked to see the necklace and, upon touching it, was confronted by Thydona, who told her to break the stone. Lenihlra, thinking quickly, cast Ghost Sound in the distance to distract the curator while she returned the necklace to the case and locked it.
During this encounter, Inhe was scoping out the guard schedules and determined that, during the day, there was approximately one guard for every three rooms and a supervisor wandering about every now and then. There was an additional guard wandering through as well. The group determined that the keys that Yssa possessed disabled the traps in the exhibit.
As a part of their planning, Lenihlra began by researching houses in Lorisen that supported the Museum at the library on the campus of The United Emaniquora University (see The Commericial Neighborhoods of Lorisen for more information.) There she found that the top donors, in order from greatest to least, were Luthyra, Gordivan, Timberborne, Mossbeard, and Covingaire. Once she realized that the Covingaire's would more closely match her demographic, she chose to imitate them. Their colors are white and silver. This ruse would allow her to gain a private viewing of the jewelry in the exhibit. Arik Prince would help to create a gown for her.
Jacquora decided to follow Yssa Deerborn to see where she went after work. With a near-perfect set of skills, she stealthily followed her to her home in Nedia, the top layer of the neighborhood called Little Emaniquora in Lorisen (see The Residential Neighborhoods of Lorisen for more information.) Waiting until she and her partner went to sleep, Jacquora stole into the home, took the curator's bag, removed ten keys from the thick key ring, and returned the bag to the abode. With that, she made her way back to the group.
On a different day, Lenihlra and Inhe made their way down to Xhosidva. Lenihlra went to commission a replica necklace of the one at the museum from a jewelry store called Sapphire Ambition ran by a man named Langley (see Xhosidva for more information). Meanwhile, Inhe visited Gal Powers at Mage You Look to commission three magic items. These hairclips of disguise will, when worn, disguise the wearer both in sight, sound, and smell.
Together, with assistance from Falaern, they decided to imitate a distant relative of the Lorasian noble house of Covingaire. They would switch the necklaces out with a fake designed by a jeweler, and leave none the wiser to the swap they had made. They waited until their various commissions were finished, gathered them, and went to sleep to prepare for the next day, the 14th, when their plans would finally come to a head.
"The Hart of the North"   This wood and metal orb was buried with Torsten Hartvig, found resting over his mummified remains where his heart would have been, his right hand covering it. The ball exudes a magical aura. As of yet it is unknown what it can do.
