Emaxus is currently undergoing a large entry into a new Age (and a large revision of the current Age). Consider this an active construction zone: things are moving around, getting changed, and the world's being reorganized. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Yamma, the Silver Dawn

"We gods are nothing without mortals. Mortality is strength; what you may consider fragile or weak is beautiful and strong."

Cover created with Midjourney.
Yamma is the god of the sun, hope, perseverance, and resolve. He represents the stalwart defense of all civlization, and of hope undying in the face of any tragedy. Patron of all defenders of mortalkind, of all who hope for a better future, Yamma is the epitome of mortal resolve and unity. Certain sects of his followers also hunt things that threaten mortals, like aberrations and other defilers of the natural order. In this, they work closely with several other gods' followings, like Laianath.   Of the Children of Yamma, or the gods in general, the Silver Dawn is the most unique. He is the divine amalgamation of the demigod heroes who slew Vivrah, the Obsidian King, ending the Obsidian War and delivering Emaxus from total destruction. And with his divine power, Yamma created the other gods that would come to be known as the Children of Yamma. Thus, the Silver Dawn is considered the chief god of the Pantheon, and all temples and churches who worship his Children pay tribute to him for his hand in bringing about their god's existence. Yamma represents the strength of mortality, and is the patron saint of all mortals, even those who don't primarily worship him.

Depiction, Symbols, and Names

Yamma is most often depicted as a human man of unbelievable size, rippling with muscle and framed by thick, shoulder length black hair. He wears no shirt, has thick, golden bracers coursing with divine power and loose, flowing pants tucked into simple boots. Most art shows him engaged in combat with terrible threats to mortalkind, either in the Age of Rebirth or Reckoning.   Yamma's symbol is the Silver Dawn rising on the Wings of Hope. In simpler renditions, the more complex Wings of Hope are often lost in favor of focusing on the Silver Dawn itself.   Yamma is known by many names: Yamma, the Silver Dawn, the One, Sunfather, He Who Shaped, and the Risen One.

Ancient Home

Yamma once called Yamkath his home. He stayed within Aigacerama, a monastery he constructed atop the Great Pillar, the tallest mountain in all of Yophas, where he could watch the multiverse he had saved from annihilation in peace. After the Reckoning, the monastery houses only his god-spirit and his most devout attendants, even as his other divine followers marshal elsewhere.

Worship Distribution

Yamma is far and away the most worshipped member of The Ten. Almost all followers of the Children of Yamma at least respect Yamma himself, and a temple -- or at the least a shrine -- dedicated to him can be found in even the most simple towns and villages.   While some places don't worship him directly (Aasveig being the largest example of that on Emaxus), it is rarely out of a distaste for him; instead, it is simply a lack of awareness.

Champions of Yamma

Champions of Yamma are known as Silver Paragons, and are named during times of great crisis, when mortalkind must unite or fall. Two Silver Paragons have been named during the Age of Extant, and a few are known from the Reckoning and prior.
  • Arstan Gehrwind, Lord of Castle Gehrwind. He was named during the Heliestheos Crisis, specifically after putting Ambriel, a corrupted angel of Yamma, to rest. He reforged Oathkeeper, the Blade of Empyrean, and purged it of the Mad Solar's corruption.
  • Ralla Kindguard, Paragon of The Auric Exemplars. She was named as she was planning on heading to Aitreas to fight Krathum. She created the Auric Exemplars and, after the seven-year-long Fragmented War, brought Krathum and his Defiled Empire to an end.
  • Xaphina Odawyn, Lady of Istrora. Believed to have ruled a floating city named Istrora, Xaphina wore armor known as the Silver Bastion and fought during the Reckoning.

Divine Domains

Yamma is the god of the sun, hope, perseverance, and resolve. His Clerics tend to belong to the Domains of City, Courage, Life, Light, Order, Peace, Protection, Solidarity, Sovereign, Strength, Transcendence, War, and Zeal, while his Paladins swear Oaths of Awakening, Devotion, Fervor, Glory, Redemption, the Crown, the Watchers, and Truth in his name.

COMMANDMENTS OF YAMMA

  • Seek peace when dealing with fellow mortals, for in unity, there is survival.
  • Know when one must take up arms to defend oneself, but understand that that should be a last resort.
  • Heal and protect before killing and maiming, and never hesitate to perform the former for those who seem to desire the latter, for in that peaceful act, harmony can be achieved.

Methods of Worship

Yamma tends to be worshipped in prayer and rites. Whether it's daily ritual or whispered prayers during times of crisis, even people who aren't particularly devout to Yamma will petition him for hope and the strength to persevere.   More complex rites to Yamma will often be performed when entire communities need the strength to go on, or want the unity that Yamma eschews. Chief among these are the Prayer of Unity, a large-scale prayer in which an entire community will gather and follow a series of chants and phrases to invoke the bond that Yamma is supposed to provide between mortals.

Holy Day

The Silver Dawn's holy day is called Dawnbreak and takes place on Miirphys 1, Aerylinn. It is a celebration of the birth of a new year, and the survival of civilization for another winter. In many cities, arcane displays and even fireworks light up the night prior, and people celebrate through the night before and the day of Miirphys 1 with feasting, parties, and gifts for friends and loved ones. Resolutions of unity and improvement for the coming year are also made.

Temples and Places of Worship

Temples to Yamma are constructed as ten-pointed circular stars. One of the points serves as the entrance and each of the other nine points are rooms dedicated to each of the Children. The central circle has a shrine or statue of Yamma and altars and pews and such, while the rooms can be small altars to the Children or private rooms for clergy or storage rooms or serve other purposes entirely. In the largest cathedrals of Yamma, these points can be entire temple-sized complexs on their own, but those are only found in megaloplises like Ariminium or Theussau. Even small towns   Smaller altars and shrines to Yamma can be found all over mortal civilization, dotting roads and highways or even abandoned out in the forests. These are often small stone or wood shrines with the Silver Dawn carved onto it, though they can also feature statuettes of Yamma or small silver basins for sacrifices and tributes.

Ancient Foes and Allies

Yamma's foes are innumerable. Anything that threatens mortals, that seeks to kill hope and destroy the strength of the mortal spirit, is a grave enemy of Yamma and his followers. Obviously, the Obsidian Lords rank high on that list, with Narvox taking the highest seat among them. Yamma's followers hate the Obsidian Lords with a passion; however, some understand how the Obsidian Lords often corrupt and enslave, and hope that their followers can actually be redeemed, rather than exterminated.   Yamma's followers are the friends of all mortals, and can often find a shelter in any place where Yamma and his Children are truly followed.
