the Sierian people

The Sierian people are not native from Wisterand. They are immigrants from a place lost even to them. They arrived on large boats some thousands of years ago and founded the city of the antic Sier. Their leader was the first Markis. They progressively expanded and defeated the Oranian Empire, to annexe the southern part of that Empire, before defeating the Mermekh Kingdom, thus creating the Antic Empire of Sier. After the destruction of the antic Sier a lot of the survivors fled to the central town of Uria, before their leader Erior the Ist founded the city of Midaria.   In some territories they intermixed and assimilated with other prople, giving mixed people like the Sieroranian people in the west, the Sieranistanies people of Ashmok, or the Sierishians   A particularity: Sierian people have six fingers on each hand and foot. The dynasty of the Markis being of Sierian origins, they also share that particularity.

The Sierian people speak a dialect of Wistlirien. This dialect is itself divided into two dialect which are the Sierian and the Midarian .

Art & Architecture

The Sierian architecture is very auster, plain without ornements. They built out of rock, wood and daub. They have had a rich architectural period though, during which most of the palaces and landmarks of Midaria have been built.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Funeral ritual is very complex in seteist religion: humans are made of every four elements, therefore their soul must go back to each element, before in can be reunited with Sété and become part of the bonding force within the univers. When a person dies, first they are washed and drained of their bodyly fluids, then they are carried high up a tower where they are burnt on a stake, lastely their ashes are burried with seeds of different plants. Sometimes part of a body -usely the heart- can be kept and placed in mausoleums for people to revere and honor them, this is usely reserved for high status people, such as kings, queens, princes and other nobles.

Historical figures

first Markis and his wife Eridéa are probably the most important historical figures in sierian culture. They founded the city that gave the name to the people: the Antic Sier.   Another very important couple are Erior and Dawré founders of Midaria.   Urior Sundhaérior, or Urior the First, founder of the The Empire of Wisterand son of the latters, is probably another very important historical figure, and for the majority of the population, he is the only one to have ever really exisited.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Beauty is seen as superficial in Sierian society. It means that to Sierian people everyone is beautiful in their own ways. This said, they obviously are able to tell when someone is strackingly beautiful or handsome.

Gender Ideals

Gender is fluid in Sierian society and it is not uncommon to see nonbinary people and division of tasks within the society varies from household to household. Women can join the army, men can be taught to saw, a born female can decide to be called "sir", and so forth...   That said this shift in gender perception was pretty recent in Sierian history and therefore there still is a lot of the ancient patriarcal vision remains, like the role of the kings: that is still male primogeniture, so women can't inherit the throne and only the eldest son is the heir.

Relationship Ideals

Monogamy is the norm. But as gender is fluid, relationship are fluid too. Sierian people never force an union, exept within the reigning dinasty when needed, but in general dukes, princes and kings are free to choose their partner. Homosexuality is not frown upon in Sierian culture, people are free to marry anybody they want.    note: the dynasty is semi-wardh, that means members live potentially really long lives (Urior the first lived more than five hundred years). They usely have one partner (semi-wardh or not) but rarely remarry because love is seen as something precious and as a once in a lifetime thing , first. And also because they don't usually seek to have many children. In general they have one child, more than one is an exception and more than three, is really rare (happened only once in more than two thousand years). Children within the dynasty are seen as a pure necessity, because having too many children would multiply people with wardh inheritance. That is also the reason why members of the dynasty practice safe sex, or homosexuality.

Major organizations

The Sierian major Kingdoms are:the Great Kingdom of Midaria and the Sierian Kingdom.
