Clan Spartach
A once proud clan of warriors and druids, Clan Spartach has faded into the history books due to the actions of the Venatorian Empire. The six great clans of the Ceilic Region became five after Clan Spartach was decimated by the might of the Venatorian Legion.
Structure
Clan Spartach was ruled by Kieran Airdeall, a chieftain known for his devotion to the Titan Gods of Old and his paranoia towards all who were not of Clan Spartach. It was rare for a chieftain to live to an old age, but Kieran managed to live to 312, meaning that he was near the end of the wood elf lifespan. He wielded a crossbow and was rather skilled with it, but he could not stop the ever-flowing wave of legionnaire.
The religious needs of Clan Spartach were tended to by Archdruid Cara Chiontach. She was a fanatical worshipper of Gaia, though she revered all the Titans as well. She spent almost all of her waking moments either healing the sick and wounded or performing sacrificial rituals in honour of her gods. Despite being rather attuned to nature, it was dire wolfhounds that killed her, not legionnaires.
"The leadership of Clan Spartach was weak. An old man and a crazed heretic of a woman. When you follow the mad and the senile, the only place you will be led is to Tartarus. My legionnaires should have captured their leaders alive, only so they can watch their clan being butchered for their weakness." ~Commodus Formido, Legate of the Venatorian Empire.
Culture
Clan Spartach put heavy focus on the importance of unification. They believed that the only way for a mortal to accomplish something greater than themselves is to forge bonds with others, to create friendships, families and clans.
Every individual was expected to put the wellbeing of the clan before themselves. Selfishness was not tolerated within the clan. While people were allowed to do whatever they wished in their free time, they were expected to work in whatever occupation they were assigned.
Group revelry was quite popular in Clan Spartach. Drinking games, singing songs and playing musical instruments were all favourite pastimes, which is why taverns were extremely busy within the clan.
Disbandment
In 1321, Clan Spartach was invaded by the Venatorian Empire without explanation. With the aid of their Venatorian Dire Wolfhounds, small encampments of Spartach warriors were easily overrun. In a matter of months, Clan Spartach was beaten back to their main fortress, Ádhmhar Dún. Through the use of siege machines such as catapults and ballistas, within weeks, all that was left of Ádhmhar Dún was rubble, and all that was left of Clan Spartach was broken bones and bloodstained ground.
By 1322, there were almost no remnants left of Clan Spartach, and those that were left had not been deemed a threat by the Venatorian Empire. Those that are alive now live as wanderers, mercenaries and adventurers. Some seek vengeance against the Venatorian Empire and others just want to survive as long as possible.
Military
Those within Clan Spartach had a talent for druidic magic. From the lowest warrior to the Archdruid, the druidic power found within Clan Spartach is extraordinarily impressive.
The warriors of Clan Spartach were known for wielding serrated steel spears. They wore chainmail armour and occasionally wooden shields.
The rangers of Clan Spartach favoured using crossbows above all other weaponry. They would use druidic magic to conceal their position and pick their enemies off with poisoned crossbow bolts.
The druids of Clan Spartach favoured ice magic, as they believed that using flame spells could risk causing a forest fire. They spent much of their time healing their allies.
Foreign Relations
Clan Spartach engaged in trade with the Authenian Republic, selling mead and bear hide in exchange for wine and modified components for their crossbows.
Clan Spartach originally had a strong relationship with Clan Laoc, but when the Venatorian Empire attacked, Clan Laoc refused to send any aid, undoing their entire bond.
Agriculture & Industry
There was a large number of wild beehives within the territory owned by Clan Spartach. They used the honey these bees produced in order to manufacture mead.
Black bears are a common sight within the Ceilic Region, and were hunted by Clan Spartach for their meat and their fur.
