Personal history
Due to Prometheus being neutral in the Titanomachy, he was spared from being at the mercy of Tartarus. Instead, Prometheus watched over the earth, and created the first mortals out of clay. It soon became clear that early mortals were beginning to starve, as most of the meat from their hunts had to be sacrificed to Zeus.
Prometheus confronted Zeus, as mortals were his creation and he hated to see them suffer. He came before Zeus with two offerings: a selection of beef hidden inside an ox's stomach and the bull's bones wrapped completely in glistening fat. Zeus chose the latter, not realizing that it was completely inedible. The bones becane the new status quo, whilst mortals got to eat more, pleasing Prometheus.
Zeus however, was not happy with this trickery, and as retribution, decided to revoke mortalkind's access to fire. Seeing how his creations were suffering now that fire had been taken from them, Prometheus snuck onto Mount Olympus and stole fire, before destributing it to mortals, ensuring their survival.
Enraged by the defiance of Prometheus, Zeus had him bound to a rock, where once a day, an eagle sent by Zeus would torture him and consume his liver. Due to Prometheus being a Titan, his wounds would heal almost instantly and his liver would regow, so the horrific cycle could continue the next day.
Prometheus has been enduring this torment for thousands of years.
