10 - A jolly day out
General Summary
Hasta la bye bye!
The party head out to the Crystallized Lake with Lin, intending to fight Gilgamesh on the way. As they travel they notice many uncleared corpses of freshly defeated monsters. Lo and behold, Gilgamesh awaits them, eager to face a new challenge. A hard battle was fought, and the party had to expend a lot of resources, but they managed to defeat the wily Elf this time around! He called for aid from his friend Enkidu before flying away, leaving behind a magical cloak of Elvenkind.
The still greedy Greebi
The moogle known as Greebi returns, handing a pair of magical armour enhancing bracers to Kupo before asking for more food. Kupo feeds him all of his greens, much to the future dismay of his Chocobo and probably Patrice. Zar'ral Helvimtor cooks him some sauteed lamb and Vexacious Rein chooses to hand the greedy bugger 30,000 gil before he seems to be satisfied, and flies away again, hopefully to be seen in the future.
The holiest place of all
The party then heads to The Crystal Spire, finding a small entrance at the top of the steps leading up. They enter, to find themselves in a 50 foot high chamber, with a strange magical archway about 30 foot in, colors shimmering over it's surface, like oil on water. They notice 6 colors. Yellow, light blue, dark blue, brown, red, and green. They attempt to channel their crystal power in to the arch, but only succeed in temporarily removing the color brown from the mix. Their continued antics and demands of poor Lin seem to be wearing upon them.
Judgment
They hear noises of combat outside, and Zar'ral heads out sneakily, noticing Thordan in the distance, cleansing monsters with ease. Unfortunately, he spots the rogue, trying to hide in an open plain, his cloak not quite enough to make it possible. Thordan then makes his way inside the tower, following Zar'ral.
Inside, Thordan questions the group and Lin about why the party are not still imprisoned, Lin tells him to talk to Pope Braska Guado. The party notice that Thordan will not attack whilst in the confines of the spire, a place he reveres. They agree to be escorted back to Crysteria. On the way, they are beset by worm like creatures with tentacles for mouths. Thordan deals with roughly 20 of them as the party manages to cleave through about 10.
On the journey, Kupo keeps trying to touch Thordans sword in an attempt to investigate, and draws Thordans wrath, being struck for a huge amount of damage. Kupo tries again using incense and succeeds, feeling a strange darkness akin to that they discovered upon the restoration crystal. Kupo then has his life force drained, choked in to unconsciousness. Zephyr Highwind then carries his body the rest of the way. The party are returned to the cells beneath the Holy Palace, but are soon after let out.
Chloroform, mans best friend
The party heads to the Pope's office, hearing the sounds of a loud argument behind the door. They enter to hear the tail end of an argument between Thordan and the Pope. It seems the Pope is now certain of Thordan's wrongdoing, despite them being old friends, the Pope is willing to be lenient in his punishment of Thordan due to the Pope believing that Thordan had Crysteria in mind, always.
The group attempt to stop Thordan as he tries to leave, Arrex manages through sheer force of will to physically restrain Thordan, who begins to reach for his sword, energy amassing in it's blade..
Zar'ral seizes the opportunity, using his magical dust obtained previously to knock Thordan unconscious. Guards soon arrive to remove and secure his weapon, along with the man himself, removing to secure facilities. Thordan's personal knights are nowhere to be found..
Fame and infamy
After things calm down, the Pope tells the party he has been giving matters much thought, and sees two potential options for progression. One, to allow the party to continue without any formal announcements, with his personal support that includes an Aether based teleportation network and a private residence that will operate as a stronghold within Crysteria. The other, to publically announce the group as those chosen by the will of the crystal. This may bring both fame and infamy, it will make some situations easier, and others harder, the governments of The Olidian Nation and the Gridal Empire may either get on board with providing support, or may reject the claims and label the group criminals. This choice will, however, make it possible for Crysteria to offer more aid, despite political risk.
The group agree to go public, AFTER dealing with business Zar'ral has in Olidia.
White mage matters
Kupo takes a small detour, heading to The White Mages for judgment about his case. Hamas Lyoney speaks to him privately, happily reporting that Kupo has been promoted to journeyman, and given a brand new set of travelling robes. He notes Kupo should take those robes off if ever he wishes to engage in any less.. reputable or presentable activities, as a warning remains for his unprofessional behaviour.
A place to call home?
The group are given a small stronghold. A sturdy but unremarkable town house just to the west of the holy palace. A 4 bedroom, 2 story house complete with a basement. For now, the furnishings are bare and basic. The basement is behind multiple locked doors to which different party members have different keys. Inside is only a single large crystal, set up by the Pope to work with their powers as a teleportation hub, although, at present, the group do not know any connected locations. They must discover them manually and link them together.
