Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Feminine names end in vowels, sometimes a singular vowel sometimes a double. They never end in consonants. Some examples of feminine names include Ova and Beri.

Masculine names

Masculine names end in consonants, these are sharper sounds and are considered to be masculine sounds. No male names in recorded history have ever ended in vowels. Some examples of male names include Dren and Hulop.

Family names

Only male members of the family have surnames after marriage but before that, females will also have their fathers name. Names are usually a descriptive title from old Elvish, these include Smallhand and Brightflame.

Other names

Snow Elves are the only race of elves with middle names. Like first names these also follow feminine and masculine naming rules, though they can be bent like the names Trin for females, and Gero for males.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Oeaic and the Common Tongue are used almost in the same amount as each other in Istar.

Shared customary codes and values

Most families of Snow Elves have different values, the only shared value they have is the Draga Ghlo or Dragon Code, a code of ethics introduced by the dragon riders.

Common Etiquette rules

Snow Elves generally have the same etiquette rules as the Light Elves with the change of children having to show great respect to elders.

Common Dress code

Females are supposed to cover their arms while males are not required to.

Art & Architecture

Most Snow Elf architecture is based around ice as that is their most common resource they have and the magic they are most proficient in.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Snow Elves see bluer skin and darker hair as beautiful. These are the common beauty ideals but the elves that live in the mountainous regions of Istar see lighter hair and whiter skin as beautiful. This mountain tribes ideals are thought to be the ancient elves views as well.

Gender Ideals

In the Snow Elven society women are seen are less than until marriage, after marriage they are equal but before they are not allowed to have a job or train to hunt and fight.

Courtship Ideals

The male's parents will approach the females and ask for her hand in marriage if the family agrees then the children will court for one year. After this they will marry.

Relationship Ideals

Relationships between spouses should be presented as equal though, they usually are not internally. As females never learn to hunt or fight until marriage their spouses are required to teach them. This means that there is a huge power imbalance in such relationships.
