Xarann Gell
Xarann was a direct descendant of Krenral Gell and father to Taernuin Gell. Guenhyvar, along with the leadership of the Shadar-Kai was handed down from father to son for fourteen generations until Xarann dared to cross The Raven Queen. Xarann was one day visited by a raven, an odd occurrence for an elf in his position as leader but as a devoted servant he accepted the summons and followed the raven. That night, he followed his raven guide through a shadow portal and into the Feywild. As the raven drew closer to its destination the trees suddenly started to feel familiar, he immediately realised where the raven was taking him. Xarann had another family in the Feywild which he had tried to keep hidden from The Raven Queen. His second wife, a wood elf by the name of Naevys, had recently given birth to his baby girl and Taernuin’s half-sister, Sosaria. Xarann watched from the treeline as Naevys hunched over his daughter’s lifeless body and wailed into the darkness. He could not act or speak, frozen to the spot, watching Naevys grieve for their lost child, all he could do is watch on while tears fell from his cheeks. Suddenly, his own shadow burst up like a cloak fluttering in the wind and consumed him. When the darkness subsided, he stood in front of The Raven Queen herself. He fell to his knees and begged her forgiveness, Guenhyvar resting on the ground in front of him. Her still and lifeless body never moved but Xarann heard her voice in his head “You have betrayed your people Xarann, your name is shamed and your soul will rest here in shadow with me for all eternity.” The throne chamber flickered to complete darkness and when the little light that exists in Shadowfell flickered back into the hall, all that remained was the broken remnants of Guenhyvar and Xarann’s weeping shadow trapped in the floor. It is now one of The Raven Queen’s most prized possessions and any adventurer brave enough to reach her throne room will still see his shadow weeping there today.
