The Hearthkeepers
The Hearthkeepers started as a holy order serving the Godess Aurelia.
As they were approached through visions by the four Divines to build The Bürach Empire, they went far and wide to search for a chosen emperor.
Then their visions led them to the western marches. Here they found a 12-year-old boy named Thancred, who had single-handedly slain a giant that guarded a fjord so that he could build a bridge between two towns. When the Hearthkeepers came before him, they watched as he returned a dead lamb back to life with just his hands. As one, the priests fell to their knees and named him Emperor Indorius, first of his line.
They stood by every emperors side guiding them with political advice and growing in size and power. While they served the people as religious leaders and cared for them, they also implemented new laws cementing their power in the roots of the Bürach Empire.
As the religious war between the states of the Bürach Empire ended and a ceasefire was called, the Hearthkeepers distanced themselves from the mad emperor Leopold I and installed the new emperor Aratron I.
The emperor now only serves as a figurehead, while the Hearthkeepers are the true rulers and the law-enforcing organization of the Bürach Empire.
