The Mark
Free for Mercantilism
The lands of the Republic of the Mark are both varied, and uniform across their territory from west most Zeelands to Est-Mo. Most of these lands are cold, at least in comparison with most of Evantian, with icy storms from the North and the seas themselves are known to be ferocious. However, those who brave the snowy forests of Balton or the waters of Norge and the Zeelands will find a group of people who have made truly the most of these lands. For a trader, the Mark is simply a haven and a source of great potenial.Henry Norwick, Travellers Guide to Evantian, Press of Wien, Wien, 1705.
Geography
The terrain of the Mark changes greatly, from the grasslands and mountains of Norge, to the Balton forest and hills to the flat islands of the Zeelands, however the common theme is the cold nature of the land. The Mark sits on the Northern Seas, the sea playing a huge role in the history of the Mark, to put it bluntly, the lands are a beautifully grey land.
Fauna & Flora
Animals and plants in the Mark are typically dangerous and resilient, adjusted to surviving the harsher lands of the Mark. Tall trees brush off the snow in Balton onto the hunting creatures below, while the only thing more tough that the landscape of Norge and the Zeelands is the life on them.
Natural Resources
The Mark possesses average levels of timber, ore and crops, with an above average supply livestock. However, the real resource the Mark has comes from the seas, with large amounts of fishing and whaling both giving the Mark something to live off of, and to trade that doesn't rely on refining.
