Acrean Empire
The Empire that once ruled the world. Land of the First Living God.
Structure
Officially the Empire is ruled by the Emperor, both as a patron God and ruler of all its territories. In his absence, practically all power resides with the Triumvirate formed by the heads of the three major organisations within the Empire. As a result the Grand Judge, Grandmaster and Lord Councillor currently acting as the highest authorities within the Empire. The Judges are the instruments of the Emperor's will, acting to further his agenda, the Arbiters are responsible for the control of a city and all the lands it controls and the Immortal Council is responsible for protecting the Empire and acting as advisers and lawmakers. Beneath the major groups the Empire utilises a caste system, with nobles and the church controlling physical and spiritual assets on a day to day basis for the greater powers within the Empire.
Public Agenda
The Empire seeks to protect the world from all threats and will ally with any group that will help them further that aim. However they have decided that the best way to protect the world is to unify it and as a result they one day plan to conquer all other nations once more.
History
The Empire was formed by conquest as the Emperor defeated all foes and united the world under his rule. As it grew, so did distinct factions form to maintain what the Emperor had built. The most fanatical followers became his Judges, who enforced his word and nothing more, while the more reasonable members formed a council to advise his Imperial Majesty. They worked with the Arbiters, rulers of Imperial cities, to stabilise and create a society that survived to this day. The Empire grew and grew until eventually it covered the entirety of the world from which it would prosper for millennia.
The peace would lead to rapid advancements in technology and magic, shepherded by the Emperor who had a particular interest and talent for research and development in his spare time, bringing about an age of technological cities and vast constructs. The world rapidly overcame the issues of space and supplies, vast industrial machines and automatons producing all the people needed and vast skyscrapers reached into the skies. The stability and security provided, along with the example of the Emperor, led to a massive influx of Immortals that would bolster the development of the Empire even further as well as providing a stable hand for the generations of civilians who lived their entire lives never knowing want or conflict. Even the birth of the Wanderer was initially seen as a boon to the world, another indicator of the eternal progress being made.
The emergence of the Wanderer spelled the end of the Empire's golden age, although none could predict it at the time. Slowly but surely the Wanderer's ideas made their way into the mindset of the Empire's citizens, slowly but surely subverting the ideals upon which the Empire was founded. The Emperor tried to peacefully quell the calls for greater freedoms, concerned that this could result in the destruction of all he sought to build, but to no avail and soon he was forced into a confrontation that would cripple the Empire.
The Cataclysm shattered the peaceful reality of the world, ending millennia of peace, and leading the Emperor to seclude himself from his people. Eventually this led to a city-states breaking away from the control of the Empire, first in the form of the Pleuyan Republic, then the Tesmeri Protectorate, New Druace and finally Oshen. While the Empire waged multiple wars to try and reclaim the lost territory they were ultimately unsuccessful and these new nations rapidly solidified their positions as separate entities.
While the Empire still stands to this day and is still the most powerful nation in the world, it is a mere fragment of what it used to be. Progress has halted, the people no longer living carefree lives and the survival of the Empire itself seems to be in question at times. However, the people still have hope.That one day the Emperor will return to them and once again reunite the world under one rule. For now though, they steel themselves against a hostile world and ready for the day that the crusade will begin.
