Velia
Velia is a constitutional monarchy that grew shortly after the ousting of humanity by the non-human races. In an attemt to find order in the scattered remains of humanity, folk started to gather under people who had power before being outcast and it was under these nobles and bureaucrats that a noble family was born; the Infeld dynasty.
History
Under the wing of the early Infeld name, humanity found stability and strength and Velia rapidly became the primary centre of humanity in Everus, centred around The Western Isles and based out of the Reledusian city of Andrala .
After establishing themselves in worldly politics when memory of humanity's struggles fell into the history books, Velia began a diplomatic aproach to power; capitalizing on trade and politics to root themselves into power. This long fought victory was only celebrated for a short time, however, as within the same year as the establisment of Velia, the Azateli capital of Ambershield had fallen to a previously unknown power. Mere months afterwords, the Empire of Lowvire became itself and rapidly overtook Velia's place in the public eye. Humanity, now viewed as a force to be feared, rather than a friend to hold in arms.
Velia's relation with the Empire of Lowvire has always been slightly tense, as their ideologies are usually in conflict. Velia perfering peaceful advance where the Empire desires blood and glory. This flame was kept smothered by Velia, as they did not want to start a conflict that could potentially return humanity to the hole that they so feverishly fought to claw their way out of. This ended when the Lowvires appeared on Velian shores.
Their scouts had failed them; the Lowvires had already established a hold; Black-Eye Fortress on the shores of Gwensovier, Velia attempted to keep them at bay while they rallied some sort of defence, but when word came that the diplomat they sent to the fort had been strung up by their endtrails, it was war.
The war barely lasted months. Lowvire had caught them off-guard and already had armies on their shores under the leadership of Princess Pearl es Lowvire, second to the imperial throne and Commander Thelam Eldrich, a formidable warmonger. Hadenfroy managed to respond first, with their peasant levees under a green commander of their own, but impatience struck, and while a reinforcement was on march to support the army in Esverath, the commander marched his troops on Omeranth, which the Lowvires had just taken.
The foolish move left Velia battered and bruised while the Lowvires marched straight south toward the Capital of Andrala and it was during the siege of Andrala when the Infeld family accepted defeat, fleeing the city as some of their major military leaders that they had managed to assemble kept the Lowvires back.
In the coming months, Awn fell. Political strength grew for the Lowvires as the Infelds fled into what is today known as the country of Velia. Most fled, but some Velians stood their ground in Awn. They were swiftly destroyed by the Lowvire's far superior might.
Today, Velia and the Lowvires are at a stalemate, the mountain range that blocks march between Awn and Velia has proven a great frontline for the defending county, as the near 20 years of nothing has granted Reledus the title 'The Halted Lands'.
