Session 5: Tragedy strikes...
General Summary
(Note: Written many weeks after the fact. For that reason, it is not very detailed, and some things will have been forgotten).
Having concluded business in Lonelywood, our heroes decide to head back to Targos via Termalaine. There was some discussion about going to Kelvin's Cairn to find the site where Trex and his Kobold's were attacked, but ultimately decide to stick to the roads.
Unfortunately, the party decides that travelling overnight won't be too dangerous. However, events prove them wrong when they are attacked by an Ice Troll. Baradin is slain during the fighting. Grief-stricken, our heroes transport Baradin's body to Targos, where they find a friendly priest - Father Peter - to conduct a funeral service for him.
While waiting for arrangements to be made, the remaining party encounters a stray sled dog which leads them to a house in town. Also chasing the animal is a member of the town militia called Snowbourne, who has been ordered to "get rid of that damned dog" and is reluctantly following orders. The home is owned by Keegan Velryn, and the dog is called Boy and is owned by Keegan's husband - Garret Velryn - a wilderness guide who led an expedition to Kelvin's Cairn a few days ago. If Boy has returned without Garret it must mean that something has happened. Keegan asks the party if they will go search for Garret. Boy seems eager to lead them, and Snowbourne agrees to accompany them.
Sensing that time is of the essence, the party leaves Targos, not staying for Baradin's funeral.
