Chapter 63: Storm King's Thunder

General Summary

Date: 29th of Nightal

The Good Fellas emerged into a vast underground cavern, where the remnants of an ancient temple lay buried beneath the sand. The air crackled with tension as they beheld Iymrith in her Storm Giantess form, seated upon the Wyrmskull Throne, her smile wide and expectant. The sight filled them with a slow, haunting dread.   Iymrith welcomed King Hekaton and his companions with a voice dripping with malice. She taunted Hekaton about the deaths of his daughters and blamed the party for her ascent to power. Hekaton, unable to contain his fury, charged at Iymrith. She smirked confidently, and the battle began.
Arcane bindings latched onto Hekaton, rendering him restrained. Gargoyle soldiers emerged from the sands, and a gargoyle dragon holding Princess Serissa captive appeared. Despite the party's valiant efforts to interrupt the ritual and save Hekaton, Iymrith’s power grew. She drained Hekaton completely, killing him and using his essence to summon spectral versions of herself from other realities. Desperation set in as the party fought to stop her, but Iymrith completed the ritual, teleporting above ground and taking Serissa with her.   The ground broke into floating chunks, revealing the horrifying sight of the Greatwyrm Iymrith. The skies split with thousands of lightning strikes as the party saw her immense form hovering above. They realized they couldn’t harm Iymrith in her godly form, but Serissa beckoned them to reach her across the floating rock islands. The party pushed through the storm-ridden amphitheater, dodging Iymrith’s relentless attacks. They finally reached Serissa, who was filled with determination and sorrow.
Serissa explained that through her, the party could channel a strength beyond their own, a gift of her lineage, but it would come at a cost. With a heavy heart, Serissa transferred her remaining divine essence to the party, sacrificing herself. The party felt a serene yet powerful energy envelop them, their bodies growing and transforming as the divine essence infused them. Lightning danced around their now-giant forms. Serissa whispered her thanks as she faded away.   Empowered by Serissa’s sacrifice, the party faced off against Iymrith in her Greatwyrm form. Despite their newfound strength, Iymrith’s Force Burn Breath weapon and thunderous meteor strikes decimated them. One by one, they fell, but each received a boon from their fallen allies, pushing them to keep fighting.     Ranvas felt the sorrow and determination of Harshnag, gaining an Action Surge. Bene received the protective blessing of Queen Neri, granting immunity to lightning damage for a short time. Nomime felt the guidance of Mordenkainen, casting a spell with maximum damage without expending a spell slot. Belros received a vision of his family, gaining advantage on all attacks, saves, and ability checks for one round. Nut experienced a chaotic manifestation of his consciousness and dashed through the battlefield with a newly-found speed.   As the battle raged on, Iymrith’s form began to falter. Her scales dulled, and her power waned. The party's hope dwindled as they watched their companions fall. Ranvas, Bene, and Belros lay unconscious, their bodies battered and broken. Nomime, the last standing, felt the weight of their fate on her shoulders. With trembling hands, she managed to use the potion of rest on Ranvas before succumbing to her injuries, collapsing beside him.   Nut, in a final act of bravery, dashed through the chaos, his form a blur of determination. He revived Bene and Belros, pulling them back from the brink. His heroism was short-lived, as Iymrith’s wrath descended upon him. With a savage strike, she tore Nut apart, his sacrifice a poignant reminder of the cost of their fight.     In the face of overwhelming odds, the revived companions fought with renewed vigor. The sight of Nut’s sacrifice ignited a fierce resolve within them. Bene rushed through the chaos, her strikes precise and deadly. Ranvas and Belros joined her, their attacks coordinated and relentless. Iymrith, now weakened and desperate, lashed out with all her might. The storm clouds churned violently, and her massive wings beat with an unsteady rhythm. This was their moment.   United in their strength, the heroes coordinated a final attack. Iymrith roared, her voice filled with a mix of fury and desperation. The storms raged around them, but they pressed on. Bene, with lightning dancing around him, plunged his dagger into Iymrith’s chest with all his might. The Greatwyrm’s roar echoed through the skies, her form releasing all the divine energy in a massive explosion that engulfed the heroes...
