Labyrinth Library

Labyrinth Library is a run-down library standing on the edge of the town of Meadowbrook. It has been abandoned for quite some time due to the mimics' disinterest in the building. The building is locked, though there are a few ways to access the building; finding the key, breaking in, or other more creative magical means.

The library is a two-story building with a hidden underground access point beneath the empty bookshelves on the lower floor. There are different sections within the library, each with different genres of books. The top floor has mostly magic-related books, whereas the lower floor contains history books.

The top floor of the library is where the puzzle begins. There are two bookshelves with a few empty slots where new books can be put into place. More information on this puzzle can be found in the puzzle article.

The party's goal is to access the underground labyrinth and aquire any artifacts that may be down there.

Purpose / Function

The library is the hidden entrance for the town's catacombs. It also acts as a form of entertainment and education for the small town.

Sensory & Appearance

Musty, rotten odors waft out from the building when opened. It is incredibly warm and uncomfortable. A slight scent of decay seeps into the mixture as well from an unknown source.

The only lighting available comes from the windows. Fortunately for the party, the building is covered with them. There are also unlit torches that the party can choose to light if they want to. However, there is the risk of the fire spreading from the old torches to the rest of the building.

Contents & Furnishings

Bookshelves, books, some tables and chairs can be found throughout the library. There is a section on the upper floor where people can sit and relax with a book. There is also a section for students who need to study on the other side of the upper floor.

Each floor has a chandelier with blue quartz crystals.

Valuables

Certain books may prove useful to the adventuring party, particularly magic-related books. However, no rare or uncommon artifacts can be found in this building. The party may be able to find lost and forgotten coins scattered around, but nothing over 5 gp.

There is a valuable-looking chandelier on each floor with dangling crystals. The party may be able to harvest the crystals and sell them for a small profit. They are blue quartz crystals, each worth approximately 10 gp. There are a total of 10 crystals on each of the chandeliers. The chandeliers themselves are made of iron, only worth something if they are melted down into raw materials. Party members will have to make a related check to know the worth of the chandeliers and the crystals.

Alterations

Natural overgrowth has begun taking over the building.

Defenses

The building is locked and has thick walls to protect it from the elements.

Environmental Effects

The library is rather humid due to its lack of use. Air has been trapped inside of the building for a long time, leaving it stale and musty. Mold has started growing in some parts of the library, and some of the books show severe signs of damage.
