Dàn Coast

Along the southern edge of Kaabara, pine forests meat a marshy coastline. The Dàn Coast is a region between the Southern Ocean and the Lurun Mountains. It's full of coniferous forests prowling with scimitar cats and Dàni villages built on stilts over marshes.

The region has traditionally been fairly isolated. The foggy forests carry a hint of the unknown and the region was very rural and traditional until recently. In the past, parts of it were the frontier of the Valaran Empire - the part no solider wanted to be stationed in. Who would want to leave the comforts of Valara for an expense of cold, wet, forests cut off from the rest of the world?

It was only the bountiful lumber the region provided that made anyone pay attention to it in the first place. The terrain is close to sea-level and prone to flooding, making large-scale agriculture difficult. The only crop that flourishes is rice, and beyond that, the residents base their diet around fish. In the west, the Wuiya Peninsula rises above the rest of the region and meets the sea with cliffs. Other than that, in many places the line between sea and land is blurred by brackish marshes.

The off-shore islands, the largest being Nai Island, are also considered part of this region.
