WA SUMMER CAMP - 2023

This year themes are very juicy, but I have decided to keep it chill. This is why I will pledge for Silver. If my muse is really into it and I complete more than 16 prompts.

Plans for this year

Summer Camp is upon us again.

As you can see in the left, this year I have decided, I will adhere to the spirit of camp chill. This is because:

  • My mental health has been taking a toll with work pressures lately, and I'm working towards self-care.
  • I want to improve the quality of the articles, I write, during SC. This means focus on quality instead of quantity.
  • As part of this, I also pledge to get at least one of my articles to the point where It can be submitted for a community challenge, both to improve quality and to show myself, I can do it.
  • Themes

    Power and Relationships

This theme is very juicy for me. Both because, I have only explored it very superficially in all but one of my areas, but I have reference how problematic the situation is in all of them.
  • The capital, Spiralai: is where most of the powerful families live. I have only drafted their hold of power in the organization template of the families, I have created. No underground has been created yet.
  • Serene: is a power keg brewing under the appearance of a pleasant holiday sea side resort. Even when it is the one, where the lines of power and motivations are better defined. It needs more work, especially in the legal side of the equation.
  • The Frontier Forest: I have defined this area as a place where many different tribes, some of them in conflict with each other, live. But unfortunately, I have only defined, their gathering place.
  • The Islands Conclave: This is an interesting one. As a gift economy, their society way, to hold power is to give away the most to others. I hope to explore more, as this is quite different to the other societies in my areas.
  • Frontiers

  • Entrelai frontiers:
  • To the north: mark by the river (to be named), which is one of the most active areas for commerce and transportation. This frontier is guarded from obvious hostile incursions by the floating city, but anything else is not controlled by anyone.
  • To the forest: This is an active, even if unofficial, conflict area between the forest tribes and the Entrelai forces.
  • To the west: mountain range and impossible dessert. This area is defended upon but mostly ignored. Good place for hideouts
  • To the conclave islands: This is coral reef, in the sea. Some very interesting resources can be harvested here.
  • Conclave frontier to the open sea: Beyond the statues, lies the deep sea. I could be a source of danger, but not much more
  • The capital, Spiralai has a frontier, defined by the river. The north part of the river is better off and the south part of the river.
  • Summer Camp Camp Chill Badge
    Nnie's Camp Chill Guidelines
    • Remember the prompts are suggestions, not requirements.
    • Write what you're passionate about, leave what you aren't.
    • Relax when you feel tired.
    • Fight off any pesky brain-squitos trying to make you doubt your work.
    • Don't abandon your non-summercamp goals! Write that article you're itching to write, even if it doesn't fit any prompts.

If you'd like to repost this badge, use [imgblock:4574878] to include the guidelines or [img:4574878] for only the badge. Amy Winters-Voss made a block version you can use by adding [block:1050823] to your article.

    Relics of the past

This world is full of relics, ready for anyone who is brave enough to collect them. Cities and cultures are normally built around one or more relics of the past. And finding new ones and discover new creative uses for them is the core of Numenera world. While I have explored some of these relics. Others are only mentioned and need some more work.
  • The capital, Spiralai: Has the central spiral structure, around which the central part of the city has been build and the 4 citadels. None of them are detailed.
  • Serene: Serene was first build inside the magnificent ship barren in the coast. This ship is explored in Serene, the Stranded Ship.
  • Responding town was based upon the call of the mountain, asking people to settle in their lap. If this is a myth or an actual artefact has not been explored yet.
  • The ceramic circle settlement was based on what look like a town sized greenhouse, which keep its environment stable. Even when this is mentioned in the town article. The actual artefact has not been explored.
  • The Frontier Forest is full of relics and artefacts.
  • Conclave Islanders based their civilization, in the ruins in one of the islands. A massive super mall, shaped in the form of a humanoid bird. This has not been explorer yet
  • Comunication

  • Entrelai:
  • Do other nobles families has access to similar devices as The Royal Quill?
  • How do the communicates thought long distances.
  • The Frontier Forest:
  • how do the different tribes mark their territory?
  • How are the routes to the Forest heart marked?
  • Serene
  • There is a heavy underworld in this city, what method is used to signal meeting and to deliver information between themselves and others
  • Conclave Islanders:
  • how do the different island communicate with each other
  • how do a fleet communicate with the island if they perceive a danger

Ahoy! Yay for Summercamp! Yay for camp chill! I admire your reasoning behind your incentive to focus on quality, rather than quantity. There are a lot of writing events around that enjoy measurable, quantitive production over a month or a week, etc. I find these to be quite draining personally, and while they can help with writing capacity, I feel it can sometimes go too far and reduce overall quality. I hope you find it to be fun and fulfilling to work on a prompt that particularly inspires you. I love how detailed your planning has been, it will surely be a boon for the upcoming prompts. It seems you have a lot of room to make some big, creative decisions, while also having a broad foundation to make some intricate details. The Royal Quill, Spiralai and the Conclave Islanders intrigue me the most so far. Best of luck :)
