Alivara (Ah-lee-var-ah)

Capital: Athalon
Languages: Alivara, Suhali, Ilhar, Cultrius   The nation of Alivara was reformed with the aid of Naliph and Einsaung Nat so as to restore the homeland to those that had once called it home. Shifting borders, wars, and numerous natural and magical disasters have greatly changed the landscape of Forterre. In spite of this the nation of Alivara has thrived since its reformation and the nation has become a beacon of light for those lost in this world.   Bonding their rebuilding efforts resulted in the merging of the nations of Alivara and Borva to create one nation under a single flag. Though this has presented some cultural clashes these divergent people have come to learn how to live together with an ever growing harmony. During the rebuilding of the nation the people took to rebuilding the ruins of the ancient city of Athalon as the people insisted that this be the crown jewel of their home. With the restoration of the city also came the resurrection of the School of the Arcane which had been destroyed along with the city centuries ago.

Throughout the land of Alivara there are several other small villages that have propped up across the desert as the years went by and the population of Alivara increased. Most of these villages were established in areas where the village would be able to provide a service for the nation, such as the fishing villages of Aset and Blackbriar, or the bustling city of Akocost that had grown from its humble roots as a mining town.   Since it's reformation the nation of Alivara has become a home for refugees of recent wars in the land as the people of Alivara look to aid and give to those that find themselves in need as a thank you in return for aid in rebuilding Alivara. It was this desire that resulted in Alivarans reaching out to the people of Naliph and offering temporary shelter after the War of Ascension and the events that resulted in the Sea of Glass. Since this time the people of Naliph have made new homes along the eastern shores of Alivara, intentionally remaining within a short distance from the Sea of Glass as they continue to look for a way to restore their own homeland.

Demography and Population

Population: 3,000,000 (Human 40%, Elf 20%, Dwarf 15%, Hobgoblin 15%, Half-Elf 4%, Goblin 2%, Other 4%)   A thriving urban culture can be found in the metropolitan areas of Alivara where the middle and upper class have taken hold of these communities. It is in this areas that the various shops, craftsmen, and traders, can be found. A thriving port in the city of Athalon brings in imported goods from around the world as well as new life into the nation itself. Many of these people that find their way into the nation are refugees fleeing the Dragon Wastes in search of a new and safe home.   The influx of refugees from the Sea of Glass and the Dragon Wastes has not been without consequence. The various races, such as Gnolls, Bugbears, Goblins, and Ogres, have begun to form pockets of criminal activity throughout Alivara, though primarily in the cities of Borva and Athalon. Some of these various groups have formed their own villages where they can be free to follow their own beliefs without being exposed to the prejudices of others. A recent decree from Cesar Alivarice Bellrie has allowed these refugees to join the Alivaran military as a way to restore the military from the heavy losses suffered in the War of Ascension.   With the amalgam of races that have made Alivara their home there has been an explosion of culture as well. Buildings are commonly a mixture of stone and wood, crafted with an artistic flare to the buildings that has become common to the people of Alivara. Music has also found a significant place in the nation iwth many songs being written regarding the return of the great nation, as well as songs written in mourning of the loss of the nation of Naliph. From these songs a group of writers, playwrights, and musicians formed a guild dedicated to spreading the word of Ilys while immortalizing the actions of the worlds heroes.

Territories

The nation of Alivara stretches from the Delisster Hills west of Borva to the shores of the Tasli Ocean far to the east, with the Delisster Gulf presenting a water way to connect Borva to Athalon. The city that stands near the western boarder of the nation, Borva, stands as the last relic of the former nation of Borva. Throughout the centuries this city has seen much turmoil from dragon strikes to a swirling maelstrom of necromantic energy that consumes the land just to the north west of the city. The people of this city have built and rebuilt their home multiple times and this has given them a hardier and adaptable approach to the world.   Central to the nation is the risen phoenix of the nation, the capital city Athalon. This city defines the resilience of the people of Alivara, while also representing the cultural center of the world. A bustling port is constantly in motion as goods, and people, are constantly coming and going, along with a significant naval fleet patrolling the waters of the Delisster Gulf.   Athalon also plays host to the School of the Arcane which serves are rival to that Magical Academy in Munasarja. From here many of the worlds renown masters of magic and science study under the masters that had come before them. To the east, nestled in the base of the Elixt’al Mountains is the modest city of Ackocost, the third largest city in the nation. This city was initially intended to be the nations new capital but this idea was abandoned as the people spread west and found that the cliffs over the Delisster Gulf served as a better location for a capital. Ackocost was not cast aside by this decision, however, as it was learned that the Elixt’al Mountains contained extensive veins of rare and common metals as well as gemstones.

Military

Alivara once had the strongest military presence in the known world, but this force has been dramatically reduced the day that Orikon ascended to godhood. On that day the Sea of Glass was formed and nearly 200,000 Alivaran soldiers were instantly turned to glass and trapped in their death throws forever. Since that day the military has struggled to replenish their numbers and have sought alternative means to do so. One such method is to recruit from the refugees that have came seeking new homes in Alivara. This has helped to create a temporary solution to the issue while also presenting the unintentional advantage of an increased racial diversity within the military as hobgoblins, goblins, ogres, bugbears, and more have joined side by side with the Alivaran soldiers.

Religion

Religion plays an important part to the people of Alivara. To the west the farmers spend a portion of their day in prayer to Monde in hopes of a good crop, while the miners to the east do the same while praying that the mountain does not collapse on top of them that day. Within the major cities there are many priests of Soleil and Floraison who tend to the sick in the city while also tending to expecting mothers and nervous fathers. Priests of Floraison also run hospitals for those in need of medical care but are unable to afford the price of a divine casting.   Temples dedicated to Arion also house the courtrooms of Alivara where judgement is fairly made for those that have been charged with a criminal offense. These same temples allow for civil trials, though these are not as common as Arion priests struggle with placing a financial value on justice. Churches of Ilys are also found in all major cities and are considered to be gathering places for travelers and those that have spent long days toiling in the fields or mines. Here the priests spread joy and good hope to all their patrons, and the first twenty people eat and drink for free!

Foreign Relations

Since the War of Ascension tension has been high between Alivara, Jyn Urndlikr, and the floating cities of Groph. Alivara has reached out as a home for refugees of the former nation of Naliph, as well as those that are fleeing from the dragon strikes in the Dragon Wastes to the west of Alivara. It has been increasingly difficult to accept the refugees as the Grippli military pushes on the western boarder of Alivara.

Agriculture & Industry

Alivara's small reach of mountains contain many rare earth metals, common metals, and gemstones, that are mined and sold throughout the known world. Of these mines the most notable are the Kubek Quarry where stone is mined and sold for the construction of new structures. Diamonds also can be found within the mines of the Kubek Quarry and the vast wealth that comes from this quarry places the family that owns it near the top of the political pile of Alivara.   Swaths of desert spread from the edges of the Sea of Glass up to the southern edges of the Elixt’al Mountains. This restricts much of the nations agriculture to the north and north western grassy planes where fields of wheat, corn, and grain, stretch far beyond the horizon. Cattle farms and pig farms dot the landscape within these fields, though most farmers combine their goods and provide both crops and livestock to meet the demands of the nation.   From the city of Borva a vibrant lumber industry supplies craftsmen with the materials to make their carefully hand crafted furniture. These items have become popular among the wealthy of Alivara as a symbol of class and taste. Each piece of furniture is hand crafted from the pine trees that grow north of the city and are rarely sold outside of the city. It is this limited realm of purchase that makes the furniture so desirable as it requires a great amount of effort on the part of the purchaser to obtain such a piece.

Legislative Body
Alivaran government adapted to a democracy when the nation was reformed as the people felt that the mistakes of their past came from following the rules of a single leader. Adaption of this political structure allowed for the people to incorporate the people of Borva into the folds of leadership. With their government in place the poeple of Alivara had created a balanced system of power that operated with checks and balances for all levels of the government.   While the democratic process has been beneficial to the nation it also has not been fully supported. Those from the nation of Borva came from a Military junta where the generals of the armies and navy lead the nation as well. The voices of these people mixed into the senate of Alivara and a call for a shift to giving the military control of the nation has begun to fill the cracks of the nation. Fear of the dragons who inhabit the Dragon Wastes, and the encroaching armies of the Grippli, have many looking for a change in the senates docile and peaceful approach that has been used in the past.   Alivara is lead by Cesar Alivarice Bellrie , a charismatic leader and brother to Lucan 'Caracal' 'Stag' Bellrie , king of Cultrius. It is thanks to the charismatic leadership of Alivarice, and a select group of heroes, that the Cesar was able to prevent a coup against the nation. There has been significant strain placed on the government of Alivara thanks to the loss of a significant number of their soldiers during the War of Ascension and the threat of a new war has many concerned.
