MAGELLAN-CLASS J SEV

After making the decision to sell off their Heliades fleet in the 2070s, Weyland-Yutani discovered an abandoned Weyland shipyard orbiting Transept in the Borderline Region. There were some three hundred Heliades frames there, all in various states of completion. Never one to waste resources, CEO Michael Bishop called upon the Geholgod Institute to design a replacement SEV using the same general frame as the defunct Heliades. While the project was assigned a much more modest budget than the Heliades, it soon ballooned out of control—the result of a purely scientific design team without proper corporate oversight. Each Magellan costs nearly two billion dollars. Conceived by the brightest minds in the Inner Core Systems, the Magellan-class features advanced FTL gravity drives, pivoting thruster arms for greater maneuverability, an improved sensor suite, and two piggybacked Class D science/lifeboats that SEV teams call “the humps.” Four Magellans are assigned to the Great Mother Mission to the lost colonies.
