Vreyjian Guard

The Vreyjian Guard are the elite bodyguard of the Etruscan Emperors. Following the Etruscan practice of stationing Legionnaires far from their place of origin (to prevent rebellion and factionalism), the Vreyjian guard are recruited exclusively from outside the Etruscan Empire, from the Northlands beyond the Northern Ocean. This - together with generous salaries, luxuries and privileges - will ensure their loyalty.
Vreyjian is a Northlandic name referencing the goddess Vreyja, their name for the goddess of Love. They worship many gods, but are particularly devoted to the sacrificial nature of Love in their role as bodyguards.
The Vreyjian Guard are elite and well-equipped, armed with not only the traditional weapons of their homeland (axes, longswords and round shields) but also the arms and armor of the Legions, including lamellar armor and gladius swords (ideal for close defense in a bodyguard role). As members of the imperial household, the Vreyjian guard are entitled to wear the color purple.
